But not all turned out the way people envisioned. The famed General Ike disappeared to unknown lands, taking only his tactician (and lover) Soren with him. Ike was not there, but the Greil mercenaries continued under Titania. It was still not the same. Ike had kept them together through sheer strength of will, and now they were drifting apart. People who lived together constantly during the war were traveling to the far corner of the continent and further, in the case of Hatari. People who had formed strong bonds with their comrades were making difficult decisions about staying together or going their separate ways. Kieran left his beloved Crimean Royal Knights to join one squinty paladin in the mercenary business. Reyson was planning on continuing to live with Tibarn rather than in his native Serenes. Boyd and Mist were wearing promise rings. Rolf was living with Shinon as an apprentice.
For the royals, there was no question of where, but only who. Elincia was returning to Crimea with a new royal consort in Geoffry. Tibarn was leading the united bird tribes with Reyson. Kurthnaga was going to Goldoa heavy hearted but with a strong sense of duty.
But some people, and some royals, were not so sure.
Sothe, for example. Somehow, over the course of two wars, had become inexplicably attached to one young fire mage (now sage, actually). He had started as an annoyance during the Mad King's War, then grew to a friend. And as they both grew from boys to men, Sothe had...feelings. Of a romantic nature. Towards his best male friend.
But Tormod was going back to Beignon. He was so passionate about leading the Laguz Liberation. And he was a man enough to do it now.
And Sothe was going with Miciah to Daein. That was how it always was. She was the closest thing he had to a family-a mother, a sister, and a friend. And he was utterly devoted. But he would miss Tormod. That was just a simple fact. And if he knew how Tormod felt, then he might change his decision. But while many last minute confessions had been voiced emotionally before and after the final battle, theirs had not been one of them.
Besides, although homosexuality seemed to run rampant in their little group of heroes, it was still not accepted in Beignon or Daein. So Sothe wallowed in his angst and resolved not to think about what could have been.
Them Miciah approached him with a proposal.
