My adorable sex-kitten, Matt, has passed me the baton. Who knew a baton could be used for more than Track & Foreplay?? Without further adoo, I present:
What Music Means to Me

From a very early age, I was told of my father; The Radio D.J. One of my fondest childhood memories are of watching my oldest-older brother practicing the electric guitar all night with the amp jacked into his ear-cupping headphones. While in the 4th grade, I found that my favorite class was Music Appreciation. In middle school I was a black shirt, combat boot, long haired metal head; hanging out all afternoon listening to Metallica, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, and Ozzy. Meanwhile, my other older brother is jamming with all these bands as a lead singer. I spent nearly 3 years in "high"school band playing everything from the cymbals to the bass guitar. I played with little jam bands on the side where I would play bass and do lead vocals. To this very day I find motivation to sit down and write a song that helps me cope with something... or someone...

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I have always known that music is a part of what I am. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if my DNA were comprised of musical scores and compositions! To get back to the phrase I used before about "cope", the root of music is the sharing of feeling and emotion. Everyone that is moved by music, whether it can "make you love and get you high" or "bring you down and make you cry", completely connects with the emotion that inspired the artist(s). When I listen to music it is therapeutic in some ways. Subconsciously I am drawn towards any music with a driving beat. A beat that makes you bob your head. A driving rythem that makes your foot stomp and your booty shake. Yea, you know what I'm talkin' about. Next thing you know, you're banging your head and rockin' the fuck out! \m/ (><) \m/

*twitch*

Where was I... Oh yea, so anyhow. After the beat hooks me line-and-sinker, I hone in on the lyrics. This is a crucial part of any song as far as I'm concerned. I have songs that are stuck in my head that I cant fucking STAND TO HEAR, but they have some catchy beat that hooks in your brain... but the lyrics just fucked it up. So, being critical of lyrics, I study them carefully. There is nothing worse than going to play your loved one a romantic song after an amazing dinner, only to find out that its about some woman leaving a man because he's an abusive womanizing asshole. Now, now.. you're thinking "Who in the fuck could make that kind of mistake??". Rest assured, someone can. And that someone is me. heh. I'm such a player.

Total Volume of Music

As of this time, I have 66GB of music. That's 1,152 folders and 13,364 files. It is a collection I have been gathering for about 3-4 years with the efforts of a couple friends. It is a massive variety of music of covering every genre except country. Although my preference of music has changed a little over the years, listening to all of the old is still so good to me it gives me goose bumps. Back in high school I would have never been caught dead listening to DJ Sky, Digweed, or Paul Van Dyke... Dyke?? In Texas?? I hear a lynch mob, RUN!

If you are interested in what I like as of now, you can check out this Yahoo radio station that I have been working on setting up. And by "setting up" I mean "teaching it what music I like". If you haven't checked out Yahoo Music before, I highly suggest doing so now.

Song Playing Right Now

Artist: Shpongle
Title: Star Shpongled Banner
Album: Falts Of The Inexpressible (2001)

Five songs I Listen a Lot or Mean a Lot to Me

1) Use of Time, 311 (Transistor) - This song came out just after I did. After seeing so many people around me find the love of their lives, I connected with this song. I yearned to be a part of something bigger.
2) Orion, Metallica (Master of Puppets) - This was the first song that made me realize that lyrics are not always necessary. This is a pure symphony of electric metal goodness.
3) Comfortably Numb, Pink Floyd (The Wall) This just might be the best song ever. David Gilmore is my aspiration and Roger Waters is my alter-ego. I might have to break up my band... self.. my self-band. yea thats it.
4) Warning, Incubus (Morning View) - Every time I hear this song, it reminds me that life is to short to sit around and wait for things to happen. "Don't ever let life pass you by"
5) I Hear the Bells, Mike Doughty (Haughty Melodic) - This is my current favorite song. Every time I hear it makes think about the path that has lead me to where I am now. the mistakes I have made, the opportunities I have lost out on... and the chance of a lifetime that I didn't waste.

First Recording You Ever Bought Yourself

I shit you not, I have never bought a CD for myself in my life. I have been given CD's as crappy joke gifts, and once was given a CD because I put a wad in this bands tip jar, but I have never bought a CD for myself. It would actually be easier to find the "First recording OF myself".
