Do No Harm

So I had a follow up phone call from the Resident who saw me at the U of I Dermatology Clinic... and the debate was about doing a series of follow up procedures (a discussion I thought we'd had already when I first was there...):
1. he is totally sympathetic to the fact that I have no insurance and doing a whole series of procedures would be very expensive, so he is open to not doing them because I can't afford them
2. BUT he is not at all sympathetic to the fact that I do not want to be cut on, over and over again, opening and reopening the wound on my face many times (because pain and suffering are totally not relevant to wellness care...?).

REALLY? Does this make any kind of sense to anyone?

I mean if we actually thought that there was still cancer in there, if there was any reason at all to think that it might be metastasizing as we speak, then it seems to me that neither argument is viable. However if we think that all the cancer is probably gone and he just wants to dig around to be doubly sure, then BOTH arguments (in my opinion) are viable.

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate doctors? Whether they do too much or too little it seems like the odds are in favor of them giving their patients a lot of discomfort (and making them pay too much). And of course every day I hear of them missing something, misdiagnosing the things they do see, and generally screwing up.

Seriously, I hate doctors.

dermatologist, cancer, doctors
