I do have to warn that I'm not responsible for strobe light induced seizures!
Last weekend I went to see the J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg
Super 8, which is fun and entertaining... and I would recommend so long as you don't mind something that seems VERY derivative ... it is like a blend of every Spielberg movie ... but it is it's familiarity that makes it a hoot (just don't expect anything really imaginative or original). I'm not going to say much about the movie because you would be easily spoiled and the movie is more fun if you don't know what to expect.
I'm all ready for my big Discworld Convention which starts in exactly one week, I'll post lots of pictures and information then because I'm sure it'll be awesome.
I'm happy that the Fairfield (Jefferson County?) Chamber of Commerce moved the big 4th of July celebration back to Waterworks Park/the Reservoir (last year they tried moving it to the country fairgrounds, but sitting on wooden bleachers on a hot Summer night is NOT as nice as sitting on the grass near the reservoir!
I've started watching some of the new Summer TV shows:
Suits with Gina (Zoe from Firefly) Torres is a lot of fun, I think I'll be sticking with that
The Protector looks like fun,Ally Walker is smart and funny in the lead (that humor sells the show... to me at least)
In Plain Sight is back and really doing well
Leverage is back, which I love
Burn Notice is back which I REALLY Love
and pretty soon we'll have Torchwood, Eureka, and Warehouse 13! All featuring actors we know and love already....
(I can't wait!)!
It should be a VERY entertaining Summer, particularly since Captain America, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Deathly Hallows part 2 all look to be really pretty awesome. And the one I want to see the MOST is
Cowboys and Aliens, coming July 29th!
And talking about the end of July....
Jim Butcher's newest book
Ghost Story will FINALLY be released July 26th (it stills says October on some sites, but that is wrong). He'll only be doing about 8 stops on his book tour (hopefully he'll add more later) but one will be Naperville, IL on July 27th and I'm definitely going to try to be there for that!
So I guess that covers stuff about me... I mean I am watching a lot of TV, going to see a few movies, I've been to a couple of plays, and I'm currently reading Jasper Fforde's
The Last Dragonslayer (which I'm really enjoying a lot, it is a youth book, but I like those), I've been rereading a bunch of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books (getting ready for the convention next week) but I couldn't resist Fforde's book when I got my hands on it!
I hope everyone has a fun 4th of July!
