Once again I'll be attending the
North American Discworld Convention, last time was in
2009 in Tempe Arizona, this time it is in Madison, Wisconsin July 8-11, 2011. Last time I just made a couple of simple
t-shirts and brought my
DEATH cowl and scythe, but this time I am making more elaborate costumes:
As the oldest apprentice at
The Fool's Guild, I have a cool Fool's cap, so I thought I should make a good school t-shirt (I'm assuming it will be hot in July):
(front and back of same t-shirt)
And at the special banquet "An Evening in Quirm" I'm dressing up as Miss Eulalie Butts, Head Mistress of
The Quirm College for Young Ladies:

This gown is actually a work in progress, I'm going to hand draw in some images to relate to some of the more famous graduates of the college. But if you look closely you can see that I've already put in the school name and fleur de lis designs on the French toile cloth... and I'm hoping to make the gown look a bit like a riding dress since Miss Butts is a promoter of riding. I have a wonderful riding hat, which I'll wear w/the gown to the banquet (I hope the A/C will be working well!).
I found the black velvet gown for just $8 at a thrift store in town and decided that the sleeves alone were worth $8. I extended the slit (which went up to the left knee) all the way up to the bust, and then sewed in an insert of French toile. This was both because the dress was too tight for me, and because I wanted to have room to do something interesting and unique with the dress (like making it really represent the Quirm College for Young Ladies). The gown (when on) has an interesting asymmetrical design, and is easy to walk and sit in.... I think I'll be able to have fun in it without being uncomfortable.
I'm getting very excited about the upcoming convention!
