Family Reunion

Jun 08, 2010 23:20

Every five years (for the last 10 years) we've been having a Vaughan Family reunion for my Aunt Ida, this year she turned 90 and the reunion was held in Texas (five years ago it was at Virginia Beach, and ten years ago it was at Lake Tahoe).

That reminds me of mine. I love family gatherings. It's always good to spot who decides to prioritise hanging onto their champagne. ;)

Barbara's husband ordered a whole case of champaign special for the reunion:

That's neat that you all do that. All of my family, that isn't in Cuba are here in Miami. I'd rather not have a reunion with my cousins. LOL, my cousin Lazaro is cool, but his sisters, Maria and Andrea are assholes.

I suppose I shouldn't be so mean... as dysfunctional as they all are, they don't hold a candle to MY branch of the family!
I'm searching my icons for something about dysfunctional families and can't find anything... how weird is that (you'd think I'd have a collection!).

That looks like a fun photo. Cousins are great - you get to go to their weddings and have all the associations of being close to the family but none of the responsibilities!

Well particularly with this crew: there are so many of them, and some have adult children, so that I never have to do any work at all! I'll start picking up trash, and then immediately three other people take over the job so I can just forget about it (lol).
In fact it was hard for me to pay for a meal because everyone else was picking up the tab ... I tried to insist but they all felt that I had traveled so far that I shouldn't worry about it.

These cousins really are the sweetest nicest bunch of people... because that is not true of the other branches of the family at all!

I think that's fantastic! I'm glad to hear you had a wonderful time with your family. Our family gave up having reunions ages ago. And, I can't stand most of my cousins.

Also, TOTALLY digging the wallpaper!

The wall paper is supposed to be a realistic copy of what a wealthy farmer would have in his front parlor: we rented (one of the cousin's rented) the building at Miller's Crossing (an historical village of semi-authentic buildings) for the day.... It did have (weak) air conditioning otherwise the whole family would have been REALLY uncomfortable.

And like you, I am not really in touch with most of my cousins, but I really do love the Vaughan cousins!
