Hi! It has been a long tiring weekend and I'll have more photos to post (my new camera isn't compatible with Windows98, which shouldn't be a surprise so I can only post pictures taken on the old one) and some to scan in when I get home tomorrow night, but I thought I would post something....
Just a taste:
I drove down Thursday and met up for a late supper with some other Browncoats and we reminiced about the cancelled Flan2 that became B3.
Friday morning I went off on my own to find Buffy's house and High School which are (of course) in an alternate universe but at least I can see where they were filmed...
and Friday night I met up with even more Browncoats for an even later supper!
Saturday the convention started with a bang! Ron Glass is awesome, but his photos are on my new camera... he came out wearing an Obama hat, and talked about how he had always been apolitical, but not this year!
I'll scan in my photo op picture with him when I get home.
Then Jane Espenson came and spoke, and really covered all the bases, discussing Buffy, Firefly, Gilmore Girls, BSG, and Dollhouse (she is VERY excited about the latter, and says that they already have story ideas up for Dollhouse season 2). She very kindly agreed to stay and sign autographs and I actually had a perfect thing for her to sign... do you remember that screen cap of Mal shirtless from Serenity which someone photoshopped to show where each scar was from? Well Jane is responsible for the stab wound Atherton Wing gave Mal in Shindig!
Jewel Staite was Saturday too, and my new camera's memory card was full, and I had no way to download the photos, so I switched to my old camera (which will download onto my old laptop). Jewel was full of funny stories about shopping, the layer cake dress from 'Shindig', and the flipping the bird contest with Nathan. She is funny and sweet, I really enjoyed meeting her.
Saturday night at 10pm was a dessert party, the desserts were a little lame and only out for about 20 minutes (I just had a little ice cream) and as soon as Jewel and Ron had visited our table I left to go to bed because I was exhausted!
Sunday I set the alarm for 6:30 am because the breakfast was set for 8 am and I wanted to get in line early. Amazingly the breakfast was actually good food, and there was an abundance of it. The six actors (three from Stargate and three from Firefly) took forever to go around to all the tables, but they were all charming and funny, and I also enjoyed talking to the others at my table.
Gina Torres had a baby girl 18 months ago and you would never know it, she is very slender and full of energy. She is very funny, and she had actually gone to the trouble of rewatching all of Firefly to prepare for the convention! She came with trivia questions, but when she found she couldn't stump us she decided we were all very scary.
I'm so glad I had the chance to meet her, she is really wonderful.
Summer was so shy she could barely speak at our table at the breakfast, and started out kind of shy at the Q&A, but warmed up to the questions about her dancing, Nathan's pranks, and how much she is enjoying playing the Terminator in T:SCC. When she got that role Joss called her to tell her that the movies had meant a lot to him growing up, and when she finally saw the DVDs she really felt that it was something special, and very moving.
She was thrilled with the episode this season when we learned more about Cameron and how she was made (taking the face & form & voice of Allison of Palmdale). She feels that she is not a good comedian, but that if she plays the truth of the scene then the humor will come through, and she does think that Cameron's total lack of sense of humor is histerically funny.
Oh one particulary sweet moment: when asked what her weirdest fan moment has been, Summer replied that she would never tell. If anyone has ever said anything to her that might sound silly, or sent her anything that might seem weird, that she knows how lucky she is and would never say anything about it except 'thank you'
(how sweet is that?).
You must have noticed the background picture to my lj, so you must know I love Adam Baldwin/Jayne/Casey (the latter on Chuck). Adam had had lunch in the bar of the hotel, hanging out with Browncoats, so he had had a couple of beers and was ready to enjoy his Q&A. In fact every time he gave an outrageous answer his excuse was 'I've had a beer'. And he was full of funny and outrageous answers! We were laughing for the solid hour!
Adam took his time over the autographs and personalized the photo that I had had taken with him at B3 (the convention organizer had forbidden personalizations in general, but Adam didn't care, he wasn't in any big hurry). So now I'm packing, I'll have a nice bath and get to bed soon because I have a long drive home tomorrow!
