Before moving to the Bay area I was in Fairfield, IA and I thought you might enjoy this video (made by people I don't know who have recently opened a much needed Bakery in town):

Oh, it does have a Stars Hollow vibe to it. I'd like to find a nice fictional town like that to retire to.

yeah, it is a nice quiet town, and costs are low (which is good for retirement, you aren't spending a lot for housing or food). But there are downsides ( ... )

Well, no town is perfect. Nice to have a bakery, though.

It does seem like a Stars Hollow minus OCD mayor.

Who says we didn't have our own brand of crazy Mayor?
For decades we had this crazy cross-dressing drunk who blocked all kinds of progress in town, and we couldn't figure out why all the good people of Fairfield kept re-electing him...
but a few years ago we got one of the Transcendental Meditation guys elected (he had gotten really involved in a lot of community organizations so people got to know him). So the current Mayor may seem like a weird meditating guy to a lot of towns' people but he is a nice smart guy I like.

And the Bakery thing has always been annoying... There was a fabulous one in town decades ago, but the owners retired and something else moved into the spot on the towns' square. Then a few years ago someone new came and opened an amazing place, but I think it was more work than they thought and they sold out to someone who 'simplified' it by using pre-mixed, and often pre-cooked crap baked goods that were terrible, so they went out of business. So this new place just opened after I had moved away, I hope they ( ... )
