Happy New Year!

I already wrote this once and then lost it (grrr argh, I thought lj had some kind of automatic save feature?  I guess not so much) so now I’m writing it AGAIN, but off line.

I just want to wish my flist a very happy successful 2008, in fact I’m kind of hoping for that my own self.

I haven’t written any resolutions for 2008, I do have a ( Read more... )

Heh. Just watched a documentary about JK Rowling, following her year as she completed DH - she's so softly spoken and sympathetic, I can't quite picture her as a mass murderer and I've seen her bodies.

And yes, Pratchett is still hitting top form when all logic dictates that we should have tired of the Discworld a dozen books ago. I just hope that Alzheimers keeps a respectful distance for a long time to come.

I certainly don't want Terry Pratchett to stop writing, besides he should use his brain as much as possible, it is supposed to slow down the onset of Alzheimer's....

Yeah, I was kind of surprised by JKR, I mean she was writing kids' books! And then it turns out she is more of a hard hearted killer than even Joss Whedon.

Terry Pratchett has been very kind, he hasn't killed off anyone we love... has he?

Well, the deaths at the start of Soul Music were pretty surprising. However I can't think of many other recurring characters that have had SOMBRE WORDS IN THEIR EAR. The Patrician's dog maybe? But he has killed off characters introduced within the book that have surprised/shocked. And he's made me seriously worried for Granny Weatherwax again and again.

Oh yeah, several times I remember being prepared for Granny Weatherwax's immanent death, and I would have been okay with it because she was being given a really good send off (but I'm always thrilled that she survives to intimidate another day).

I really should have a Granny icon, I'm not even a big Rincewind fan.

I have to reread 'Soul Music' (I read most of it on an airplane to my cousin's funeral, and I don't think I remember it very well), actually I should reread all of Terry Pratchett: just for the fun!
