Check Loops

Mar 26, 2009 15:43

This is intended to be a new Meme, because I want to know what makes people tick, in a very general sort of way... but of course, I can't make you participate, eh? Respond here if you like, or propagate it in your own journal if it's interesting.

I have this theory that everybody's underlying, deepest motivation runs on check-loops. ( What the heck are you talking about?! )

One that I've been having lately is:

Do I hurt?
How much do I hurt?

Once principle by which I live my life is: “Live each day so you will not regret your actions whether you die tomorrow or live a thousand years.” This is how I balance my activities for building a better future, whether for myself (e.g.: feeding my 401k) or for my planet (e.g.: keeping track of politics and policy) and staying sane (e.g.: reading for pleasure, hanging out with friends). If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, I’ll want to be able to say I took the time to enjoy this incarnation; if I live to be the eccentric pseudo-great-uncle to my friends’ grandchildren and they ask me about the really horrible events I lived through that they read about in history class, I want to be able to tell them about the actions I took to try to clean up the planet.

My loops right now are too restrictive. I often don't get past "do I have energy to start that?" and default to reading instead. :(

Am I pretty?
Do I smell nice?
That wasn't nice. Don't think like that.
