So when I first heard the news about Jason Dohring's being cast in Moonlight, I was dubious. It seemed a lot like a step down, career-wise ( Read more... )

I'm just happy Jason will be on screen and I do hope he continues to audition for 'meatier' roles.

Is he in the lead for this role or is this an ensemble show?

If I understand correctly, it's only a 'recurring' role. Which is part of why I felt like it was a step down.

Thanks for clarifying, I didn't know that. Well, at least he is on their radar and hopefully, better roles will come his way.

Off topic- I just started to watch FNL and I adore it. The camera work is different and I'm still getting use to it but the acting is amazing.

Yay! Another convert! As you've probably heard, the 'shaky cam' gets toned down significantly in the second half of the season. I'm glad you're enjoying it. :)

Oh, I didn't know the cam gets tone down, thank goodness. I really thought this was going to be a football show and since I don't watch the game, I was worried that I will be lost.

The original mention on the Moonlight fan site said recurring, but the Hollywood Reporter announcement says co-starring, and if you look at the official CBS Moonlight page, it mentions the character of Josef along with the lead and, um, the ex-wife (the one who originally bit the main character 50 years ago or whatever). Sure sounds like a co-starring role to me. Plus, I can't imagine they'd be announcing a recurring role in the trades. (And the original mention was an unofficial leak, so it's probably not going to be as accurate ( ... )

Oh, OK. Thanks for clearing that up.

When Buffy and Angel were 'on', both shows did story/character arcs better than almost anything I've seen. I think at least we'll be spared flat, one-dimensional characters and insipid storylines. But yeah, that doesn't necessarily equate to success on big-network TV.

If the Josef character is what I'm imagining it to be, I think it'll be a lot of fun to watch Jason work his magic on it.

BtVS and Angel had amazing story/character arcs that included everyone in the cast. Even though Buffy was the main character, we got to go indepth with the rest of the Scoobies and see their development. Plus, the writing went somewhere and answers were given to the audience.
