SO BASICALLY THIS HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY FOLDER FOR MONTHS AND SHOULD I ATTEMPT TO FINISH IT
Shisui will be coming in (guess who as xD) if that makes any difference...
Itachi is only five years old when his father pushes his baby brother into his arms, eyes wild with fear, and tells him to run.
Itachi obeys.
He stands out on the street and watches their house burn to the ground. His teeth chatter and he can’t stop shaking, but he clutches the bundle protectively until his arms ache.
“It’s all right, Sasuke,” he murmurs. “I’ve got you. I’ll keep you safe.”
Their father emerges from the wreckage eventually, but their mother does not. The deadened look in Fugaku’s eyes says everything they need to know.
When the paramedics arrive Itachi begins to cry, shock wearing off and grief setting in. The sound wakes Sasuke and he wails along with his brother.
They move in with their uncle Inabi soon after.
Itachi hasn’t cried since.
.
They learn things as they get older, moving from motel to motel with their father. Fugaku knows his wife’s death wasn’t natural and he passes whatever knowledge he finds along to his sons. Trying to protect them from the things that go bump in the night is useless. Giving them the information they need to defend themselves, that isn’t.
At age eight Itachi can load a shotgun faster than most people thrice his age.
Sasuke never reads anything if he can avoid it, but by the time he’s a teenager he can recite three different Latin exorcisms from memory. (Itachi has memorized ten.)
More often than not they are left behind while their father goes out to hunt whatever happens to be terrorizing the locals this time. During these times Itachi does his best to keep his little brother fed and occupied. They put on brave faces and try not to wonder if Fugaku will ever come back.
.
One day, years and years later, he doesn’t.
.
So...maybe? I live in hope that if I pretend people are interested it might actually motivate me to finish something >.>;;
