So I've made it through a full week of classes. Yay for me. I'm pretty darned tired, but for some reason I'm still up writing on this journal. I guess it's okay though since I don't have choral lab until next week. Woo!
So anyway, here are some more reflections from my week:
Monday - First conduction lesson with Stuts (aka Dr. Stutzenberger...not Zach Stutts!) Of course, I was late due to HORRENDOUS parking problems. I left about 45 minutes early for my class. Plenty of time right? Not so much. I drove through the G4 garage twice and the lot by Andy Holt and they were all full. I then ended up driving to G10 all the way over by Neyland. The whole west garage was full so I had to park in the east garage. At this point I had 10 minutes to make it to class. Yeah, again, not so much. There was no T bus in sight so I just had to hoof it all the way to the MUB. Luckily Stuts didn't much care that I was late. In my lesson we worked on beat patterns and stuff and talked about the choral lab. After my lesson I went over to the presidential court to get Chick-fil-a but felt really old walking all the way over to the Freshman dorm area to get food. I had concert choir and choral lit and then went home. I went to Red Lobster with Laura, then we went to McKay's to peruse the used books and cds. Our final stop was at the Walgreens to pick up the Nicorette patch for Laura. LAURA, I AM SOOOOO PROUD OF YOU FOR QUITTING SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!
Tuesday - Took my intervals test in theory and noticed that Dr. Brock has organ hands. After that I had a break so I went over to A&A and got a bagel. The surprise of the day was that I actually managed to pay attention in Music Bib. I don't know how that happened. After that I went to the group solo class. It's not required for Grad students, but since it was the first meeting it was suggested that we go. It wasn't too long but I don't know that I'll go to every group solo class they have. The only have a few group solo classes per semester, so studio solo classes meet on the other weeks. I don't have to go to those either but I'll probably try to make a few. After class I went home and got ready for Einstein Simplified. There weren't a ton of people there, but the weather had something to do with it. They used one of my suggestions again!
Wednesday - Normal day. Concert Choir, Choral Lit, then home.
and finally...
Thursday - That would be today. I got my intervals test back and I passed...I only missed one interval, and it was a hard one too. After that I hung around the music building until some guy decided that the coke lobby was his personal trombone practice room and proceeded to play as loudly and obnoxiously as possible. I decided to head to the library early since my Music Bib class is meeting there for the next 11 classes. Note: there is a starbucks in the library...holy cow. I went to the computer lab for class, but found out when I got there that I had to have all this crap installed to use the UT wireless network. It ended up taking the whole duration of the class to do this, so I ended up playing solitaire and minesweeper on my laptop while the professor rambled on about databases. I should really be paying attention to this class, but gosh dernit I just can't. I mean it's like instant sleep for me. I seriously may bang my head against the wall before the semester is over because of this class. Grr. After that I went with Stephanie over to her office in the UC to try to fix my computer. It ended up locking me out of the system to I then had to walk over to OIT on Cumberland to get my computer fixed. By the time it was done, I needed to hitail it to the Alumni Memorial Building for my voice lesson. Yes...the music dept. is in two different buildings...totally no where near eachother either. I made it just in time for my lesson, but Ms. DiSimone was late. Speaking of my lesson, I really enjoyed it. She's a whole lot less intimidating that I thought she might be. We picked out some music, and it it listed below for your enjoyment:
Franc "Panis Angelicus"
Malotte "Lord's Prayer"
Handel "Oh Had I Jubal's Lyre"
Puccini "O Mio Bambino Caro"...she insisted I learn this
and some Hahn piece that I can't remember
Anyway...it's getting late so I must skee-daddle. Pray for New Orleans and pray that our president can provide the kind of support that they so desperately need...but remember, it's not his fault that the city has descended into anarchy. That was happening before we even knew how bad it was, but the situation right now isn't making things any better.
