I think I may have this year's Script Frenzy idea. Maybe. I could change my mind by June 1, but right now, I think I can run with it. Haha. I'll keep everyone updated.
I met an employee from the government
Who said: It seems our system does not work.
Our '06 updates are not heaven-sent;
Our people do nothing but sit and shirk.
On new trainees our budget has been spent,
Who have nothing to do all day long
But waste their time on most frivolous things
Until a system fix comes along.
The idleness is more than most can bear.
"I'm a public servant, that king of kings.
Look at my job, ye mighty, and despair!"
Each Sudoku game played, each e-mail sent -
That they get paid for this seems hardly fair,
And the days stretch on without any end.
And, my stars, Allyson seemed happy to hear from me on Saturday. Since it's a general assumption, along with the certainty of death and taxes, that people don't want me around, it was strange to hear, "Hi! How are you? I missed you yesterday!" Of course, the fact that I'm orchestrating the removal of a vintage and quite large Coca-Cola cooler from her basement (and into mine) might have something to do with it. Also: We have another pregnant Lezzie. So glad I got out when I did. Fun fact: Allyson does a credible impression of a freaked-out Nancy.
And, nickname for the new job? I don't know if it's going to stick, but I'm thinking the Silo. It's a tall building, and we're obsessed with the price of grain.
