well, it's been 2 weeks since i last updated, and i can safely say that a LOT has happened.
first off, i moved into my place downtown, kind of a duplex thing i guess. it's a three floor house, and my girls and i occupy the top two floors. there are 5 of us: me, susan, cassie, jaceleen, and amy. it has been great fun so far! although the house was a complete mess when we moved in. i felt bad because i wasn't there for most of the heavy duty cleaning in the first two days. when i finally got most of my stuff into my room, i took one look at the walls and molding and decided i needed to paint them. they were DISGUSTING! so, my mom came and we spent all day saturday (9/3) painting and fixing things in my room. we painted everything in my room, walls and molding, and it looks 10 million times better! we put up new window shades, installed curtain rods and hung curtains, put a light fixture up over the light in the ceiling, and mounted some rods in my closet so i could actually hang my clothes up. i feel like there was something else, but i can't think of it right now. oh well.
i have class on M,W,Th, so i go home and work on tuesdays and fridays. it's working out well so far, except i have to miss thirsty thursdays. well, i'm saving money, i guess.
i got my hair cut and colored on tuesday (9/6). it's not really any shorter, but it's a lot darker. people do double-takes. it's kinda funny. i'm still getting used to it, but i like it. i'll post a picture someday.
my classes are alright. my history of medicine class is going to be a bitch, but i need the historical perspective to graduate. i suppose i could drop this class and take a different history class some other time before i graduate, but i'd rather get it done now and just concentrate on nursing classes from here on out.
geology will probably be easy. i say probably because i have it once a week and i've only been to class once so far, because i kinda ended up skipping it this past wednesday. but i did other school work instead, so it wasn't all bad.
holistic health and healing may very well be the easiest class i have ever or will ever take. there are no tests, and the only thing we have to do are weekly "journal assignments" and in class every week we have to write down how we're feeling and if anything was distracting us from learning. although it does force me to go to class, i think i can handle it.
karate is so cool! my instructor is 72, and has been teaching karate at the U since 1965. when i first saw him i thought he was maybe in his 60's. he's in excellent condition! he started the first karate school in MN, and also founded the midwest karate association. i guess he's kinda qualified! he also has a karate studio in uptown, and since we're taking the class at the U, we can go there for free on M,W,Sa. i think i'm gonna check it out next monday. we haven't learned a ton yet, but i'm really having fun!
my nursing courses are cool. i'm not learning actually nursing stuff yet, but stuff about ethics and human experience of illness. both classes are interesting enough. it's just cool to be in class with people that you know you'll be seeing for the next 3 years.
dang 3 more years of school. :( oh well, i just hope they go decently quickly. i'm pretty sure they will.
Nate came down last weekend (9/9-9/11). he got here later on friday, so we just went out and did a little shopping. i wanted to get a fan for my room because we have no AC and it was a really hot weekend. but target and home depot were all sold out. so we settled for some taco bell. on the way back to my car i looked at my rear driver's side tire, and it was completely flat! we drove around trying to find a close gas station. found one on Hennepin, but it didn't have any air hose that we could see. we finally got to a gas station and filled my tire back up. i had hopes that maybe it was a slow leak and i could wait to get it fixed til i went home. we got home and my roomies were playing quarters, so we joined in. quarters is a great game! we called it quits kinda early though, cuz we had both gotten up before 6 AM for work.
the next morning my tire was completely flat again. so we spent saturday morning taking the tire off and going to the shop to get it fixed. while it was being patched we went shopping and got a fan and an antennae for my TV. fixing my tire cost me $30, but now if i ever get a flat again, i know exactly how to change a tire. i had a general idea before, but after this weekend, i'm a pro.
after the busy morning, we went to the como zoo and conservatory in the afternoon. the zoo is free, but they ask for a $2 donation. we got to see gorillas and spider monkeys, giraffes and zebras, lions and tigers, polar bears and sea lions, and a bunch of other really cool animals.
the conservatory had some pretty flowers, but i'm kinda biased because of my gardening job. the really cool gardens were the palm garden and the japanese garden. the palm garden felt like jurassic park to me; it was pretty sweet.
we went out to eat at the Old Spaghetti Factory. it was super good and very reasonably priced! for around $10, you get some really good bread, your choice of soup or salad, a good size main dish (mine was greek chicken with a side of spaghetti) and a cup of ice cream at the end.
after that we went back to my place, picked up some alcohol and went out to a party that my roomies were at. i saw some people there that i haven't seen for months! it was very fun. after the party we went back to aaron, tom, and ed's and played some mario tennis. tom and i got our butts kicked (just like me in real life) but that's just because aaron and nate are gods at mario tennis.
sunday was spent watching football (nate and sometimes me) and reading (me). we went to Panera for lunch/dinner and had some awesome sandwiches. nate bought a bunch of bagels to bring back to the office for monday.
i made it through my first full week of school, even though it's not really a full week of school cuz i only have it 3 days a week. it makes the days and weeks fly by.
I'm going to Fargo this weekend, and next weekend is our homecoming. it's about a month early this year. i don't know what the deal is. i don't really like it. oh well.
ok, i think i've written more than enough. consider this like 3 postings in one......or something.
ok, i'm out.
