Random VM music musings

Mar 12, 2007 21:43

Apparently, everyone is stealing this from one another within the VM community (I personally stole from freezing_82), but it totally made its rounds on Facebook three months ago. So I'm going to sit back, laugh at the fact that "Wake Up" was my waking up song all those weeks ago, and that "What is Love?" (very much our real prom song) was Paul's prom song. And then I'm going to be a complete dweeb and be like, oh, this is for VM!

Opening Credits: “Ghosts," Dexter Freebish
Clearly, Lilly running about.

Waking Up: “Rescued," Jack's Mannequin
Very gentle song. I'd love to wake up to Andrew McMahon: "Static to the sound of you and I / I'm done for the last time..."

First Day of School: “Outsiders," Franz Ferdinand
iPod: +2

Falling in Love: “Strange Condition," Pete Yorn
"Stories and cigarettes ruined lives of lesser girls..."

Fight Song: "The World You Love," Jimmy Eat World
"...our time is borrowed and spent to freely / every minute I have needs to be made up / but how? / I'm looking for a nice way to say / "I'm out" / I want out..."

Breaking Up: "Goodbye to You," Michelle Branch
Holy sweet Jesus. I'll just link to the lyrics.

Prom: "Dancing in the Dark," Tegan & Sarah (covering Bruce Springsteen)
"You can't start a fire / You can't start a fire without a spark..." Tegan and Sarah's cover is probably more Prom-y than the original, but talk about loaded.

Life: "Float On," Ben Lee (covering Modest Mouse)
Erm, so I really like covers. But this is cute and hopeful, and maybe things will work out in the end?

Mental Breakdown: "Only Ashes," Something Corporate
This song certainly has a feeling of disconnect within.

Driving: "All the Small Things," Blink 182
"Surprises let me know she cares..." Maybe an ideal future?

Flashback: "Streets of Philadelphia," Bruce Springsteen
Perfect flashback song. "I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone..."

Getting Back Together: "Wildflowers," Tom Petty
This song is more about letting go, but that almost makes sense. Since it's what happens as soon as Logan and Veronica get back together...

Wedding: "Soul Meets Body," Death Cab for Cutie
"That there are roads left in both of our shoes..." Ben Gibbard is like a poet.

Birth of a Child: "Sorry So Sorry," Howie Day
Not really the most positive thing.

Final Battle: "We Will Become Silhouettes," The Shins (covering The Postal Service)
ANOTHER COVER. You shouldn't be surprised. What's this? Fuck the apocolypse, we've got each other?

Death Scene: "Please Stand Up," British Sea Power
If there's anyone asking, did you get a rush? / There's no point in asking, it wasn't enough / There's nobody else here, so please stand up... Going out fighting. I like that.

Funeral Song: "Dakota," O.A.R.
Weiiiiiird. This is really about the death of John Lennon, but it's more a song my friends and I associate with one of our deceased classmates. Beautiful. You saw everyone as an angel / But what about the thief? / Who took away from you...

End Credits: "The Way it Is," Bruce Hornsby and the Range
And we throw waaay back. But it would be an interesting end, wouldn't it?

And while we're on the subject of Veronica Mars, there's this song (probably one of my favorites, ever - since way before VM, actually) that totally, completely reminds me of Logan/Veronica. Any takers?

"Konstantine," Something Corporate

I can't imagine all the people that you know
and the places that you go
When the lights are turned down low
and I don't understand all the things you've seen
but I'm slipping in between
You and your big dreams
It's always you
In my big dreams
And you tell me that its over
wake up lying in a patch of four leaf clovers
and you're restless
and I'm naked
you gotta get out
you can't stand to see me shaking
no
could you let me go?
I didn't think so
and you don't wanna be here in the future
so you say the present's just a pleasant interuption to the past
and you don't wanna look much closer
'cause you're afraid to find out all this hope
you had sent into the sky by now had
crashed
and it did
because of me

and then you bring me home
afraid to find out that your alone oh
and I'm sleeping in your living room
but we dont have much room to live

and I had these dreams in them I learned to play guitar
maybe cross the country
become a rock star
and there was hope in me that I could take you there
but dammit you're so young
well I don't think I care
and if I hurt you
then I'm sorry
please don't think that this was easy

and then you bring me home
'cause we both know what it's like to be alone oh
and I'm dreaming in your living room
but we don't have much room to live

and Konstantine is walking down the stairs
doesn't she look good
standing in her underwear
and I was thinking
what I was thinkin'
We've been drinkin and it doesn't get me anywhere
my Konstantine came walking down the stairs
and all that I could do was touch her long blond hair
and I've been thinkin
but it hurts me thinking
that these nights when we were drinking
no they never got us anywhere
no

this is because I can spell confusion with a 'K'
and I can like it
it's to dying in another's arms
and why I had to try it
it's to jimmy eat world
and those nights in my car
when the first star you see
may not be a star
I'm not your star
isn't that what you said
what you thought this song meant

and if this is what it takes
just to lie with my mistakes
and live with what I did to you
all the hell I put you through
I always catch the clock
it's 11:11
now you wanna talk
it's not hard to dream
you'll always be my konstantine
my konstantine
they'll never hurt you like I do
no they'll never hurt you like I do
no,no,no, no, no, no, no, no

this is to a girl
who got into my head
with all the pretty things she did
hey
ya know
you keep me up in bed
this is to a girl
who got into my head
with all these fucked up things I did
hey
maybe
baby you could keep me up in bed
my konstanine

you spin around me like a dream
we played out on this movie screen
and I said
did you know I missed you
I miss you

and then you bring me home
and we go to sleep
but this time not alone
and I know
and you'll kiss me in your living room
I know
I know you miss me in your living room
'cause these nights I think
maybe that I miss you in my living room
but we don't have much room
I said does anybody need that room
because we all need a little more room
to live

my Konstantine...
