The deali-o on LJ as far as I know it

I'm seeing a lot of (mis)information flying around my Friends List right now. I'm not going to pretend I know everything because I don't, but in some instances I can help set the record straight:
  • LiveJournal is not, I repeat not shutting down. You can stop worrying. Really.
  • At least 12, maybe 13 members of the San Francisco office have been let go with barely any notice and no severance package. Two of my good friends are included in that number, and my heart absolutely goes out to them. I am enraged at the manner in which this business was conducted, and I do believe that there have been some terrible oversights made in who to keep and who to let go.
  • The site is not shutting down, but this is a good reminder to everyone (myself included) that it's a good idea to back up your journal. Data corruption, account hacking, and other unfortunate and unforeseen events do happen and having a backup of your memories is always a good idea. I used ljArchive (you can find it on SourceForge).
  • I will leave this list off with a link to a well written entry by idonotlikepeas which is much better written and more eloquent than I can be right now.
In other news, I'm really hungry. Time to go scrounge up a before-dinner snack.
