1. Why do Buffy and Spike belong together rather than Buffy and Angel? Am I supposed to have a logical answer to this? Because they do. When Angel walks away in S3 I was like "whatever," when I got to the end of Chosen I freaked out and am now writing hundreds of thousands of words of fanfic because I just couldn't believe that could be the end.
2. Do you miss the villain side of Spike? As a Spuffy FF writer or Fan - how do you reconcile the history of Spike as the evil Big Bad with his transformation journey due to falling in love with Buffy? In my real life profession I deal with all kinds of people with all kinds of backgrounds. The kind of person you are doesn't always match what you've done in your past. What matters is what you do now and in the future. Also it's fun to have Spike be bad sometimes, because it's fiction so it's safe ;-)
3. Who or What do you think is Buffy's nemesis? Is Buffy perhaps her own worst enemy due to her character traits when it comes to her love relationships? I think Buffy's need for outside approval is her nemesis. She's always concerned about what others will think about her and it makes many aspects of her life harder.
4. How did the Buffy and Angel/Angelus love relationship effect Buffy in her future romantic relationships or with Spike? I think Angel did his best to keep Buffy his, even after he left her behind. It meant that she struggled with every other relationship she was in. Spike, as another vampire, fared particularly badly in comparison. How could Spike, without a soul, really love her and change for her when Angelus wouldn't or couldn't.
Q1. Which Buffy romance didn't work and why? Buffy should never have been with Riley. There was zero chemistry between them. I think she liked the idea of Riley more than the actual man.
Q2. Do you like or hate Bangel? I dislike Bangel on many levels. One of my biggest issues is that he is so clearly manipulating her and she is too young to see it. It turns my stomach when he forces her (in The Dark Age) into saying she loves him, but then doesn't say it back.
Q3. What romance in fiction do you compare Spuffy to? Beauty and the Beat, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, Scarlet O'Hara and Rhett Butler.
Q4. Do you think that Buffy loved Spike as a friend and not as a boyfriend? How did the comic books effect your perspectives on the relationship if you follow the comic book seasons? I hate the comics. They are ridiculous and overly sensationalized and I've given up on them. Not just the romantic elements, but the story lines and the treatment of the characters I love is so poor that I can't deal with them. And no, I really don't think she friend zoned Spike like she did Xander. Buffy's anger and strong feelings towards Spike belie that.
