Wow so today turned into a really awesome day, because of my pal Thomas.
So I was just sitting round the apartment, kinda during work, kinda just sitting. When Thomas IMed me and asked me if I wanted to go sailing. Well, it was just gorgeous outside, so I figured... sure, why not?
Had a fantastic time. Thomas's friend Supin came and picked us up from Tom's place. And we went out to the Berkeley Marina. Where I changed into a wet-suit. A first time for me, but not too terrible an experience. Turned out that I was really glad I did later on, but I'm getting ahead of myself. So the sailboats were about 10 foot skiffs, with Thomas and I in one and Seng and Supin in another. I got to operate the crane type thing that lifts the boat from the trailor on land to the water. Very exciting, (not being sarcastic here).
Then helped Thomas set it up as much as I could, not sure how much help I really was... Anyway, we got out onto the water and I learned how to manage the jib (the front, smaller sail) and we did some tacking and stuff. Thomas was very patient with me, showing me how to do stuff and the like. Then we saw Seng and Supin and they asked us if we wanted to trade boats.
This is where I'm really glad I had the wetsuit on. Because as we approached the dock Thomas asked me to get off and tie us off... well, I went to step off the front of the boat, and my front foot hit air rather than the dock... hahaha. Then I hit the water. Actually kind of refreshing.
Then back out in the other boat. And I got to be the skipper, as Thomas put it, managing the rudder and do the steering. Which was pretty cool. Although, I almost capsized the boat a few times... But I was able to tack and different stuff.
And so I just had a really awesome time. It was just a great experience and I had a ton of fun!
