First, the book. I knew starting this book that the movie was more based on the whole series and just took the title of the first book, rather than trying to take one of the books and remake it. Given some of the scenes in the book and the overall mood, I can see why this was done. This book is definitely more in the literature category than the novels I tend towards. It read a lot more like some of the 19th century books that I had in college, rather than someone just writing about that timeframe in Naval history. It was hard for me to really get into, more for the style of writing than anything else. (I prefer a bit more description of the action, rather than having to assume that people changed locations.) However, it was a very good book and an interesting read. I'm not certain that I would read the next few in the series just because it's not really my style. [[It's also not the topic that I tend to read on, either.]]
