Recruiters: The Mapping Fun

Jul 20, 2006 18:27

I didn't really check the looking-for-work email for almost two weeks. That was my bad, but when I was that disheartened about a lot of things, it was not a good time to be bothered looking at what people sent me. (I didn't update my resume at the job sites, either, so that I would fall out of sight with most people, as well.) Now that my mood can tolerate it, here goes the silliness:
  1. Vaguely related position where I only have half the skills, unknown contract length... in Lansing, MI.
  2. Related position, but 1.5 year contract... in Germantown, MD.
  3. Vaguely related position where I have maybe a third of the skills, 1 year contract... but local, in Richmond, VA.
  4. Directly related position (oh my!), but it's a long-term contract for a business sector I don't really care to work in... in Gaithersburg, MD.
  5. Vaguely related position in the "not really interested" category, short-term contract and... in Reston, VA.
  6. Another contract house with what seems to be the same opening as #5.
  7. Related position, but 6 months contract... in Reston, VA. (Very different requirements and all from 5 and 6.)
  8. A third contract house with the same spot as #5 and #6, but notes that it doesn't need to be Reston, VA. It could also be in Urbana, MD. (woo.)
  9. Barely related position, where I have maybe 5% of the skills at most, 3 month contract... but at least it was local, in Richmond, VA.
  10. Related position, but not in the direction I was looking for. However, it's not listed as contract and it is local. Hmm. Save and review when done with the rest.
  11. Directly related position, but 2-3 month contract... in Alpharetta, GA.
  12. Completely unrelated position, 1 year contract... but at least it was local, in Richmond, VA.
  13. Directly related but more experienced position, yet it's a 1 year contract... in Vienna, VA.
  14. Touching-bases email from a recruiter that I've been in contact with already. Save and reply when done.
  15. General "we can help you" email from a Northern Virginia/DC/MD recruitment firm. No... No you can't help me. Wrong location.
  16. Vaguely related position, but only a 6 months contract... but a least it was local, in Richmond, VA.
  17. Directly related position, may not be a contract... but it's back up to Northern Virginia/DC.
  18. Closely related position, but it's an undefined contract... in Tampa, FL.
  19. Vaguely related position where I have a little less than half of the requirements, but it's a 1 year (maybe longer) contract... but at least it's local-ish, on the other side of the river in Chester, VA. [It's further than I would like, but I could tolerate it if everything else matched.]
  20. This position is rather close to what I want to do -- it may even be exact, but not noting the stuff I would like -- however... it's a 1 year contract... in Wallingford, CT. (And noted travel to NJ. That's a definite negative. I loathe driving in NJ.)

Doesn't look like I missed much by ignoring my email. :P What I should do is figure out the Google Maps API so that I plot them all on a map. It might get entertaining. Of course, the moment I do that, I'll get sent jobs from overseas, just so that I couldn't plot them on a map and my plan would be foiled. Hee.
