Ghoul is the premier gore metal band, as far as I'm concerned. Cannibal Corpse has gotten far too over-rated, Lord Gore lack instrumental finesse, and Gorerotted is just plain generic. Ghoul is not only cartoonish, but can really back up their shock value with some great instrumental work. Here's an interview I found that basementbar.com did.
Q: What changes have occured between the new album and the debut from last year?
A: We got a new new guitarist in Dissector. No really, we fed a guitarist from a wimpy black metal band to Dissector and he's inside him right now. Let's see, what else- we fought off an attack of extraordinary magnitude by a giant robotic slaying machine, foiled the attempts of the Ghoul Hunter to destroy us, and got some new sk8 decks. That's pretty much it, I guess.
Q: For Ghoul, the visual aspect seems as important as the music. You've got some great artwork- why do you choose to have this type of artwork?
A: We don't choose the artwork, Jake from Tales from Uranus ties Billy and Jill from Razorback up and makes them listen to United Guttural releases until they promise to use one of his drawings. It's "brutal". I mean, I'm a homicidal cannibalistic Ghoul, but there are some lines you just do not cross.
Q: What is life like in the Ghoulunatics Asylum?
A: Crazy.
Q: You use some clever and well placed samples- how do you choose which ones fit best within each song?
A: Those aren't samples. The recorder just happened to be on at some random moment during our regular day and picked some of the normal sounds of life in Creepsylvania, so we kept them.
Q: Do you have a favorite horror movie? Which one and why?
A: I saw a video of Billy Nocera's 10th birthday once. It scared the living hell out of me. You haven't experienced terror until you see this guy eat cake.
Q: What scares you?
A: Billy Nocera eating cake.
Q: It sounds like Carcass is an influence- why do you think their music is still relevant today?
A: They're not more of an influence than Megadeth, Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer, D.R.I., M.D.C., S.O.D., or the like. I think their music is great, but I don't listen to it much. Actual carcasses have much more relevance in my opinion.
Q: Some bands take themselves too seriously, others have a sense of humor- why did you choose the latter?
A: What are you trying to say?
Q: What do you have against lipstick?
A: Nothing, when it's on a woman.
Q: Unlike most labels it appears that you have a healthy and respectful relationship with Razorback Records (Jill and Billy), why is this possible when so many others bands and labels have failed?
A: That's the meanest thing you've said so far. Do you have any idea what lengths we've gone to destroy those two Calabrian slimelords? You try getting a postal employee to ignore the ticking sounds coming from your outgoing mail sometime!
Q: Where is your favorite cemetery?
A: Right here in Creepsylvania.
Q: Final comments?
A: I don't know if this interview transcended the mundane, but I think we at least acknowledged it's existence. In the future I will keep my interview answers to three simple words. MOSH-THRASH-KILL.

*Note: I still like all the bands I criticized, but after listening to Ghoul, it seems that only Impaled can compare to them in their field. Dying Fetus just sucks though.
