1. Last night, I had a dream that I was running a summer camp at my house. I had eight campers of varying ages. Suddenly, a giant hurricane was looming on the horizon and we decided that the best thing to do would be to evacuate since it looked like it could be as bad as the Hurricane of '54 which had water up to the silverware drawers of my house. We couldn't think of anywhere else to go but my grandmother's house, because she lives in the middle of the state and probably would be safe. My dad decided to stay with the house and board up the windows and make sure nothing happened... we were not too thrilled about this decision, but what could we do. We ended up at my grandmother's with all the campers and then, for some reason, a ton of URI people were there to entertain the kiddies with singing and dancing from musicals. I tried to convince Nile (who was playing the piano for all of this) to do a song from Beauty and the Beast because most of the cast was there and because one of the youngest campers loved the movie and it would make him stop crying, but Nile was disinterested. I ended up going back to my house alone by boat during the eye of the storm to check on my dad, and the house was pretty destroyed, but he was okay.
2. On Tuesday, after getting stuck in the torrential downpour on the way back from the Jimmy Fund Clinic, Joel and I passed out on separate couches for a nap. I woke up to the unique truck-growl of Clifford, my dad's red truck. Turns out that instead of coming up to Malden with the intent of fixing Joel's dryer, he brought us a new one. Well, a new used/refurbished one. We wrestled the old dryer out the door and down the steps, because it was quite a tight fit, and get the new one up the stairs... only to find that it's an inch too big for the spot. Only us, right? My dad does a quick inspection of the area and decides that whoever installed the plumbing did a shitty job and that he should fix it, because not only will it improve the plumbing but it will clear up two whole inches from the space for the appliances. Joel and I were quite skeptical at first, but my dad's enthusiasm for fixing is quite contagious, so off we went to Home Depot to buy a ton of PVC pipe and joints, a cable saw, and glue. Within ten minutes, the job is done, the plumbing is rerouted, the washing machine is moved over... the moment of truth arrives, and the dryer BARELY fits in the opening, but it fits. So, now Joel has two working appliances and better plumbing. :D
3. The tadpole I got Joel for his birthday now has working legs and little arms. It's basically the coolest little thing ever, and we're getting two more in short order to have a little family of froggies.
4. I'm seriously tired of the angst and drama in my life. I don't understand the appeal of trying to maintain a friendship with someone who is defensive and sarcastic, and who openly and actively dislikes your significant other for no particular reason. I know I'm no perfect specimen, but as I said in my previous entry, I have always found that if a friend or brother's girlfriend made that person as happy as I make my boyfriend, I couldn't help but like her, even if I wouldn't have chosen her as my friend had we met separately in life. I'm tired of feeling stressed out about having parties at what is soon to be my home.
5. We got some private news that I'm not interested in sharing with the world that makes me so elated I feel like crying. I'm only putting this in here, because I'm sure I'll remember what it is looking back on it.
6. I'm going home tomorrow morning bright and early to hang out with our friends from Virginia that are coming to visit us. Then, Saturday we're going to New York for the weekend for my grandfather's birthday. I wish my boy had a job that didn't occupy all his weekends, because I'd have loved for him to be with us... sigh.
