I just want to check and make sure all my peeps are ok after that horrible mess that went through yesterday. Fortunately, the damage was minimal out my way besides a LOT of downed trees and flooding. The entire top of my parents' big maple tree broke off, but that's the worst we had in our yards.
However, one of my coworkers was unaccounted for until 10:30 this morning. Finally, we hear from her, and she's had two trees fall on her house, one on her car, and others blocking her driveway--and she was fortunate. The rest of her neighborhood was obliterated. Her husband was watching them pull bodies from the rubble of a nearby house--including that of a 2-year old baby. This was in Cleveland. Another guy in the bank I just heard had a big tree crash through his house through the master bedroom and water is everywhere. And I certainly don't have to mention what all went through Alabama and Georgia. Watching the news today was horrifying.
I spent the entire evening at my parents' house. And actually, we spent a good bit of daylight hours on the covered part of the back porch. Only when it became truly scary did we come in. There were times when we couldn't even see beyond the porch. There was a lot of hail. ALSO, THE ENGLEWOOD TORNADO SIREN IS THE CREEPIEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD. And it went off all night--I lost count after about 6 or 7 times. Geez, it sounds like the Pyramid Head siren. But what got me more than anything was the LIGHTING. There was one point where we were all just standing on the back porch watching this insane stobe-effect that would not stop... None of us have ever seen anything like it in our lives. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. The sky was never dark for more than a nanosecond. We got out and did a little driving around, and at that point, the damage and floods were still fresh. If we weren't in that giant Sequoyah, there's no way we could have traveled down Slack Road or back up our road from the Englewood side. It was INSANE. Today, I'm seeing the trees down everywhere and the debris all over the road. Flooding had thankfully receded for the most part.
Anyway, I hope you all are ok, and there's not much damage. Some people here still don't have power (didn't get ours back until 11). Just take care!
