Nomadic Soul

I’ve lived in Harrisburg, PA for roughly seven years now. I think that’s just about long enough.

Unfortunately, I must remain at least one more year because of reasons. That’s fine, I can deal. The truth remains that relocating for me, while mentally and emotionally easy, is logistically more complex than that. This time around in particular I ( Read more... )

Canada wants to warn you that Harper isn't any better than Romney. Sure, he's not "against" women's rights, but he's not "for" them either. In his free time he likes to defraud taxpayers, blockade environmental groups, and rig elections, but he has LegoHair and loves hockey and cats.

That said, my town Halifax has a super-super active LGBT community (http://www.halifaxpride.com/), and many artsy-fartsy groups too, as well as a lot of entry level, pull-your-hair-out Monday to Friday jobs. We have ocean and clean-ish air, but the aforementioned ocean in the Halifax Harbour vicinity kinda gets raw sewage pumped into it. The bus system is dependable, especially since they just had a strike so in Canadian fashion they should be happy for a few more years.

We have many independent bookshops (I think you'd love http://www.littlemysteries.com/), and are in driving distance of neato things like old British forts and wildlife preserves. We are also the second poorest province in Canada with the highest taxes. Liquor control is a legislated monopoly owned by the province, while electricity is provided by a corporation that has guarantees for its investors, which means they're both super expensive as well.

And I'd throw it all away for some mountains and a job at WalMart, but don't listen to me because I'm clearly insane.

(holy crap I remember when you moved to PA, IT'S BEEN SEVEN YEARS????)

Yep, 2005.

Canada's still on the list, but due to comparative ease, still at the bottom under the 'President Romney' panic. I would love to live in Canada for a while but there's a lot more paperwork involved in crossing borders.
