It was one of those random quirks of timing, serendipity if you will.
I stopped writing at a random point, mid-sentence even, and decided to check my word count, which I hadn't in weeks.
The number that came up made me laugh.
44,444
I suppose other than the fact that it's made up of all fours, it's really not an impressive number. Shy of NaNoWriMo standards, after a year and change of working on it.
But I've long put aside the marathon approach to writing.
At 44,444 words, I've reached the point where I know where I'm going, but I realize that it's not going to be as easy getting there as I previously thought. It's easy to get discouraged. But at the same time, I'm excited about the story, almost as if I were just begining.
My characters have managed to surprise me even now, and that's always a good thing.
I just hope I can do the ending justice. I've never really finished anything, not really. It's daunting and humbling to think that I have not. I seem to suffer from literary ADD, jumping from one project to the next as fancy strikes.
Not this time, though. This is it. This better be it. I think I might have a mutiny on my hands if I don't. ;)
