Celtic Fling ... holy shit

Celtic Fling was awesome.

I'm afraid to even blog about it because there's no way I can put into words how incredible the whole thing was.

Scythian has once again proven they are the greatest band on the East coast area and certainly the best band I can think of. Not only is their music awesome, their stage presence and professionalism are amazing. They are also hilarious and great guys. Their ability to give me a happeh at every show hasn't failed yet.

But anyway, I hope at some point to be able to put together a playlist of select clips from the weekend. I have already started on this, though there isn't much up on YouTube yet.

I got to meet fiareynne, who introduced me to Enter The Haggis, a great band from Canada. They even shared the stage with Scythian for a couple of songs... they added electric guitar, keyboard, and a second set of drums to 'Hutsulka Xenia' which was incredible, and at Sunday night's ceilidh Joey and Leks from Scythian joined EtH for the last few bars of 'Broken Line'. I got chills listening to that one.

Scythian also got Icewagon Flu to join them on stage and they did '500 Miles'. I didn't catch a full set with Flu but they seem great as well.

The Scythian v. Albannach prankwars continue. Wendy, one of the merch table girls, gave kurizumaru a pink Scythian tambourine to give to Aya from Albannach 'from the guys'. When we gave it to Aya he said "that's gross... I'm going to save it for tonight at the ceilidh and beat the shit out of it". And he did.

It took him 5 seconds to obliterate the thing. It literally exploded into a hundred pieces.

And no sooner had he finished that, fucking Scythian sneaks up on stage, dressed in goofy outfits in a ridiculous parody of Albannach, and proceeded to bounce around pretending to be them. I DIED. I can't describe it. They tried to fake us out too, as they were introducing Albannach, Leks Joey(?) said something about 'due to contractual obligations, we're no longer allowed to have fun with this band'. BULLSHIT. He knew people were waiting for SOMETHING to happen.

This vidder missed the tambourine death, but our friend Eli got the whole thing on vid, she just has to upload it yet. Anyway, I can't describe the hilarity, so here's a clip:

Things you don't really see here is Leks trying to blow into the wrong pipe, and at the end Dany as Jamesie with his Scottish accent saying that he heard Jamesie likes pink. And yes, that is Aya grabbing Dany's chest at the end.

But, to show that there's no hard feelings, on Sunday Davy, Jamesie, and Aya joined Scythian on stage for 'I Will Go' and 'Stop the Show'. My favourite part is Aya trying to do his goofy dance around Dany's goofy dance. He really had to tone it down.

Okay, more later. It would be too much to sum up.

celtic fling 2009, enter the haggis, scythian, albannach
