After the Deluge

I hadn't been certain if I would be attending the mega meet-up on Saturday, as I was still rather sick and I dreaded the idea of spending my day out in the heat, but when I woke up to four or five inches of water throughout my entire apartment, I knew I would not be going.  Instead, I woke Josh, called our landlord, and began to bail out the water.  Our chinchilla's running wheel and hiding house were underwater, and we found him staring at the water, shaken and confused.  Thankfully, our landlord arrived within ten minutes of our calling, and was able to free most of the water simply by opening the front and back doors and the manholes near our house.  This meant we only had to bail the water in the bedroom, bathroom, and studio.

Once most of the water was gone, we spent the rest of the day drying the floor and throwing various things away.  Josh was particularly upset, as he lost a good deal of his artwork and art supplies to the flood.  Most of our furniture is fine, though, and our electronics all still work, save for the scanner and my cell phone charger.  There's a bit of a stench here still, but I'm hoping it will air out soon.

After living through this, however, I'm seriously considering moving to an apartment above-ground so that this will never happen again.  I realize that in two years of living here this has never happened before, and it was a bit of a fluke, but I don't ever want to live through this again.  My parents said they'd find some way to help us move if we find another place, but Josh doesn't want to move.  I certainly understand not wanting to go through the hassle, but I think it would be worth it.  I guess we'll wait and see if our landlord does anything to reimburse us for what was lost.

Addendum: When I came home from work tonight, the refrigerator wasn't working again.  This was probably the fourth or fifth time this year that this had happened.  Now, my landlord's always been good about repairing it, but it shouldn't need to be repaired this frequently.  So, we called and left a message about it.

My landlord just came downstairs a few minutes ago and told us that Home Depot should be delivering a new refrigerator tomorrow morning.  I hope it's true!
