After a long anf frustrating day in which I didn't think I'd be able to unwind, I got to thinking.
About what? Gears. Gears and how one could mechanically translate a circular motion into an up and down one.
Now, don't ask me to explain why, because frankly I can't I don't understand myself, but this was important to me, as I knew there was a way, and I knew I had seen it. So, i sat, and I thought about it.
And, as i thought, I couldn't come up with a way to make a perfectly up and down motion. But, it occurred to me I could make walking motion. And i latched on to that.
As I thought more, it occurred to me the primary problem witha walking motion as falling down. While you could make it low and heavy, like a car, never the less if it flipped on it's side or over, it couldn't keep going.
And I thought. And I thought. And I thought. And I designed a little sphere with feet in my mind that could walk, and if flipped, dropped, turned on it side,or anything, would get back up and keep walking. And if it hit a wall, it would turn to walk parrallel to the wall, and keep going. Hell, now that I think about it, it could probably even walk up a smooth incline, if it wasn't too steep.
What would be the point of this little walking automoton, you might ask? I dunno. I suppose, with the right springs, it'd be a neat, durable, wind up kids toy. I think in the end, the point of it was to get my mind off my problems.
...maybe it wouldnt have to be sphere shaped. It's motion would be somewhat waddly... maybe it could be a penguin?
