As unclear writing reflects unclear thought, so unclear drawing reflects unclear thought, and makes for terrible painting.
Corollary: improper reference makes for unclear drawing makes for etc.
Right up to the last painting, I still made the mistake of thinking, "I can figure that bit out when I start painting." This time it was quite innocent (not just lazy haste): it hadn't occurred to me that I was referencing heavily out-of-focus stained glass (blurs of colored light) because I was so captivated thinking about the color scheme. I ended up drawing the leading in as the last step with pencil, and it worked out pretty convincingly, but considering how big an element the window was, things could have turned out much worse.
No more brain-blur!
