Hullo everyone! Just wanted to apologize for my sporadic flist-checking; I'm at my summer internship now, and access to the precious Interwebs is limited to a couple of areas. I'm actually in Bermuda - which, yes, is very sweet - doing research on bacteria involved in red tide events (aka Harmful Algal Blooms).
I've actually bought a paid Flickr account (that's how much I love Flickr), and I figure I'd better make good use of it, so photos!
My brother took this one, actually. On the plane!
The institute's research ship... I heard that there's a little room in there that's outfitted just like a living room, complete with a Wii. I guess researchers on three-month voyages do need something to do? XD
The housing where I'm staying, at least till the middle of next week. The red-flowering bush is hibiscus!
Charles the petrified parrotfish, in one of the institute's display cases. My macro had trouble with this because of the glass case.
Uber-neat house on the way into the city of St. George - it's decorated all over with these water bottles. My brother took this photo, too. Bermudian houses are all pastel, with white, stepped roofs that channel the rainwater into underground tanks, since there are no freshwater sources on land. Bermudian rainwater tastes surprisingly good.
Obligatory sunset-over-the-harbor photo. Taken on the bus into St. George.
Hibiscus
Warwick Long Beach - we took the bus out on Saturday. I have the most ridiculous sunburn ever - not in terms of severity, which is negligible, but in terms of blotchiness, because apparently I dripped sunblock without noticing it. XD;;
Endangered Bermuda longtail - we were lucky enough to see six of them in an area which they apparently just started to recolonize. They make very cute squeaky-toy-like noises.
I took a picture of another photographer, because that's how I roll.
Which makes what, "Bangk"?
Bermudian buses are all pink, and their cars are all miniature (narrow roads). The whole effect of a cityscape is intolerably cute.
My roommate & I are both exceedingly fond of the little red "Do Not Walk" man. The little green "Walk" man is also awesome, but I didn't have a chance to get a photo of him... yet.
As usual, no one else is quite as obsessive as I am about taking photos of everything, which is kind of embarrassing, but oh well.
I have an enormous backlog of Aure photos to post, and a couple of Wintermute; one of my goals for the summer is to get those all processed, so I swear they'll be coming up soon. (Neither of the dolls came here with me, though... would make me too nervous to bring them.) Gotta go read papers now!
