My first entry . . . I feel pressure

Apr 14, 2006 15:16

What should a first entry be like? I am a little apprehensive. Is it like a first date? Do I have to put on a pretty face, keep my legs crossed, and only eat a salad? Well, that's not me, not entirely at least. I guess I just have to be real and not play games. People have to accept me for who I am if they want to be close to me.

Just a thought . . .

Children and young adults can be so cruel when they say hurtful things and bully (I have seen it firsthand at the middle school I am doing my field experience at and am appalled at some of the things my nephews say). Adults, on the other hand, are even more capable of cruelty because they know better than to be brutally honest and have outlandish outbursts out of pure emotion. Adults realize the lasting effects that come with verbal scrutiny. Sticks and stones hurt for awhile, but they heal, words grip onto the slimy part of your brain and are hard to obliterate.

Think of all the times that someone you respected said something hurtful to you. I know I remember and hold grudges from when I was a child.

The 8th grade science teacher placed me in a remedial bullshit science class for 9th grade (maybe if that did not happen I would be going to college to be a doctor rather than a teacher?) Who cares now . . . I work in a freakin' pharmacy!! (I still remember when he told me though)

A boy named *Mike pointed out that I had a pimple in front of all my friends at the movies when I was in middle school (ouch)

The politics of the high school soccer team . . . oh man.

An ex-boyfriend of 3 years finally admitting to cheating on me. Rather than saying, "I cheated on you with _______" he says, "Do you want to hear the list?"

I am positive there are many more (especially from family) and even ones that cut too deep and cannot resurface because they are hiding in my insecurity.

Please be careful what you say to people that you care about. Don't be rash. Also, actions speak louder than words. And don't dwell too hard on things that have been said to you because you probably did not deserve them.

I pray to God that I have not hurt anyone too bad with things I have blurted out. I do take responsibility for my brutal honesty and try harder everyday to make it known that I appreciate others, rather than tearing them down because I am not happy with myself.

This seems a little heavy for a first entry, but it is something to think about. :-)
