It's not veterens day

Know what is really annoying about veterens day this year? It's not being celebrated on veterens day. Veterens day was yesterday, yet everyone seems determined to act like it's today. My teacher said we didn't have class today because it's veterens day. Even the various news agencies are acting like today is veterens day. Now, don't get me wrong I ( Read more... )

Charles, sometime in the mid nineties, Congress passed an act that moved the observation of holidays falling on weekends to the following Monday. Therefore, though today is not Veterns Day, today is the observance of the event anyway.

Just because congress decided that, doesn't mean it isn't stupid. Holidays that have a specific date generally have a reason for being on that date.

I don't know, I think it shows that people care. As most of them had the day off on Sunday, taking Sunday "off" wouldn't be any different. However, if they take an actual day that they have things going on, then it seems a little more important.

Except that it seems like everyone just wants that day off, rather than caring about what the holiday is for.
