In the past 30 minutes I have had 10 different fire department units in front of my home. As few as 1 and as many as 6. I currently have 5: 2 ladder trucks, 2 vans, and 1 engine. An additional engine just left.
The city has been ripping up our sidewalks and doing something with the water pipes (presumably replacing them). I hadn't been overly concerned because the water pressure has been fine and summer is the season for construction work. I *think* that the fire department may be doing training with its crews on how to access the water with the temporary pipes. I keep hearing snippets like "Can everyone see this?" and "What you need to do is. . ." And twice I've seen huge sprays of water coming from something other than the hydrant.
I'm happy that despite the work being done on the water pipes the firefighters can still save my home in the event of a fire. But it's a little odd watching most of the city's fire equipment parade in front of your home!
