Hi, all! Here's the update on the past month:
Arrived in Boston July 27th, had a lovely weekend of food and fun with
tawny_vixen and
de_wolf while getting reacquainted with my town. Best quote of the weekend goes to
de_wolf for "All of the women in my bed are mean."
Followed by "The lost week": too tired from the move and too mentally exhausted from the massive manuscript preparation before I left.
Next up, "The lost move" a.k.a. "The easiest move ever": I confirmed everything with the moving company on Friday. On Saturday, my delivery time came and went. Friends started to arrive to help unload absent shipping containers. Calls were made to the moving company. Their West Coast hours proved irritating as no customer service was available until 11am my time (2 hours after my scheduled delivery). Eventually it was determined my shipping containers were not, in fact, in the state and wouldn't be for quite some time. Much head banging and one fabulous cusomter service rep later, I had a significant discount on my move and hopes for the following week. And an army of friends (
de_wolf;
sushigrade and
darwins_fox;
andyjw with A. and J.;
creachadair and S.; and my vet school friend RM.) ready for lunch. So we walked over to Porter Exchange and had lots and lots of sushi.
sushigrade and
darwins_fox stayed in town for a fabulous dinner at Leagal's Seafood followed by a heck of a lot of port and dessert at Finale.
Then "The week I wasn't home": Wildlife Disease Association conference at UConn. Reconnected with several professors and classmates and got some leads on possible dissertation projects. Had to skip one of the last days of the conference to receive my shipping containers. Then I spent the weekend driving back and forth between visiting with
de_wolf and his family in Princeton and unpacking (finally!) at home.
And "Another week I wasn't home": Played cat home care provider to Yuki for
sushigrade Much yummy food was eaten. Much gooshy cat food was worn (post forced feedings). And I got to see
fr0bozz for the first time in months! Yay!
And now, "The best week of all": I finished unpacking enough that my roommate no longer hated me (well, hated the boxes in the hall and the kitchen), had a wonderful evening with
de_wolf before I flew to California, fought the much hated power point to prepare my presentation, and completely finished my Master degree yesterday by presenting my research. I got glowing praise from my professor, and I feel really good about the work I did. I also got to have a five hour visit with Mirasaur who is now teacing law in Sacramento, and a lovely catch-up lunch with
shanasuer. Today I go to a party for my classmates, then drive to Oakland to see L&D (yay! *bounce* *bounce*), and return to Boston Monday evening.
Whew! And that's my month. ;-) And here's
my favourite news bit I've read this am.
