haha amanda had some really really bad salsa.
For you guys right now it’s just three o’clock but for me it’s almost bed time! I have class starting at 8:00 and I have to eat breakfast and leave the hotel by 7:40 to ride the U-Bahn to classes.
Speaking of classes, it’s really difficult not to be distracted while sitting in class. We lecture for about 4 hours straight, and I choose a seat right by the window. Our American Institute is right across the street from the Opera House, and from my view I can see right inside some practice rooms and watch people move about. The windows are always open because the weather is perfect. Like right now, we have our huge windows in our room open so the breeze can come in. It’s perfect studying conditions, if I studied. Hah. Just kidding.
Let’s see, today after German today we took a “field trip” (literally, a field trip) to some old Roman ruins at Carnuntium. It was an interesting trip. My favorite part was visiting the old amphitheater where they had gladiatorial combat. I walked through the tunnel where they would drag the corpses of gladiators and animals…that was kind of awkward. I have a fantastic picture of myself standing on top of the ruins in the emperor’s seat in a triumphal stance that Amanda took, it’s quite funny.
Yesterday after class me and Martha Johnson went to the park and laid down and nearly fell asleep. In order to not get my clothes soggy, I took out my map of the city of Vienna and laid on top of that and then used my purse as a pillow. It took me a minute to realize that I looked like a homeless person laid out in the park, but then I notice all the people lying around sunbathing in their underwear and whity-tighties and didn’t feel so bad for myself.
We play heated cards games and sit and chat over fabulous coffee in some of the most famous café’s in the world. We walk for miles and miles and never hit the same road twice. Sometimes my neck hurts from looking up at all the amazing architecture there is so take in. Every building is so different and eccentric. I like to take my ipod to the park and write in my journal while sitting near a statue or, as a recent picture defines, a house made of glass where they keep exotic flowers and butterflies. Everything here is almost indescribable.
Oh, and tonight I had the best ice cream I have ever had in my life. We walked for awhile before we found this cheap little “famous” place where I got coffee, chocolate, and strawberry for 1.80 Euro and savored for atleast 30 minutes. Amazing. It was sooo delicious.
So speaking of delicious, the tap water here (as in the stuff i get from the sink) is the best water i've ever had. We all look like tourists with our Nalgene bottles full of water but it's the best stuff ever. Besides the ice cream.
