SHIELD Headquarters

The flight, as advertised, is brief - slightly less than four minutes to reach the Helicarrier, ahead of the final moments of sundown. A sturdy room is arranged for Roxy, while the others are ushered into a pleasant but perfunctory briefing room, while medical technicians flit about, looking for signs of contagion ( Read more... )

How does one get started on this? "Um..." She's looking around at her "team." Big Blue has clues to spare. Miguel the Spider Guy and Morph seem all kinds of smart - and Bucky and Sara are just in their own class of knowing what they're doing.

"Nice ta'meetchya, Sarah." Ben says jovially to the girl, listening intently. Cosmic devourers of worlds? A 'Fantastic Four'? No wonder Parker got his manties in a twist...

The General continues to wait, his boorish, carefree demeanor hiding a calculating mind with years of experience at protecting ol'Reed's Utopia. It sounds ludicrious, but then again, so do half the thinks his old roommate used to get him into...but, he wants to see if these visitors really convey the picture they're giving.

"This gist is this - Galactus has, at one time or another, menaced most of our home Earths. Big dude, immensely powerful. Thing is, he carries with him a great deterrent. The way the Fantastic Four stopped him back home was they they stole this weapon off of Galactus's own ship - called the Ultimate Nullifier. Just the credible threat of its use was enough to make Big G back off."

"It all sounds so far-fetched. I wouldn't want to waste the council's time.."

Parker glances to General Grimm - more or less knowing that the General's response is going to be, and resigning himself to the inevitable.

"They've got the time to waste. Not like we call this place a utopia fer nuttin." Ben points out, seeming to have come to a decision. He nods to the Exlies, and turns back around, "Come on. The idea sounds crazy, but the sorta crazy that Re...Professor Richards would wanna make sure ain't crazy enough t'be true."

Colonel Parker nods curtly. He really didn't expect anything else.

"I object, but I expect you know that. If they're meeting the council, we're bringing security."

Parker taps a small badge on his collar.

"Ops, get Special Agents Drew and Hardy; tell them to meet me in the hangar deck, prepared for escort duty."

Raven raises her eyebrow at the mention of Special Agent Drew. She's tempted to ask if they also have an Agent Toynbee, but she's been self indulgent enough this mission.

"Don't you trust your own rulers, Colnel Parker? If they're too fragile to hear upsetting information, your society is in a lot of trouble."

"Now, Colonel, you're a better spy 'n that-assumptions and whatnot." Ben winks at his subordinate, as if sharing a joke. "Unless you finally figured out how to read a fella's mind." He hasn't broken his gait.

Raven lays a hand on Sarah's bad shoulder, squeezing a little too hard. Let's try not to blurt out anything about telepaths here, kiddo.

"I'm sorry, would you find six strangers babbling about planet-eating space-gods credible?"

Colonel Parker raises an eyebrow.

"You're getting your audience and a chance to make your case. That ought to be enough."

There's a slight wince at Mystique's hand on her shoulder. Its mostly healed, but mostly still leaves a ways to go, and a lot of hurt.
Still, she finds her voice again when Parker addresses them. "That's all we ask, sir. Thank you."

One of these days, she's going to say the right thing. Punch the right guy, not get locked in a freezer on a bum lead, so on and so forth. Really. Right now, she's thinking this world - while better then all the gangster stuff and the unstoppable Hulk one -

"We ain't gonna get any good TV this trip either..."
