I think I rather dislike that feminism quiz. A lot of the questions seem quite loaded, and just restricting possible answers to a "yes" or "no," "true" or "false" view set can really throw the results I think. :/ I definitely sympathize with feminists, though. Maybe not the very extremist ones (extreme anything is a problem), but in general. ^^
U of L, huh? How do you like it there? My mom went to uni there for a while. :3
I heartily agree...but then, that's the way these tests tend to be, overly simple, so the results are definitely never to be trusted. ;P
My feelings about UofL are mixed. ;P Perhaps even more than the rest of the city, it reflects a conservative, right-wing mindset that doesn't sit well with me in the least. (The quiz was right about that, at least. *LOL*) And it's definitely not a terribly safe place to be gay. ^^;
However, in academic terms, it serves me well enough. ;P I'm a psych major, and our psych department is one of our strongest, so it works out well for me, particularly given that my area of study in particular is sex, and we've had a couple of psycho-sexual researchers gravitate towards the university. Just my luck. ^_^
Oh dear on the confrontations with the right-wingers. o.o Funnily enough, I hardly ever seem to talk to people who are strongly conservative. Maybe some people will be a little con, but not so much that it bothers me; like one of my friends from high school was openly homophobic (as in literally afraid of gays and gayness), but didn't go out persecuting or insulting people for being or supporting gays just because of his fears. Anyway, most of the time, I find people tend to agree with my open-minded viewpoints, especially on gay/lesbian issues. And virtually nobody has gone negative on me for being bisexual. :/ I think it's a sign that at least in the major cities, Alberta is starting to get more open-minded people moving in and filling up the population. Hopefully it's enough to kick out the Tories one of these decades

I second that hope. ;P I had heard that about Edmonton, too, that attitudes were a bit more liberal, which is a relief. ^_^
lol, "psycho-sexual." I know I shouldn't be amused by that term, but I so am.
Don't worry, I'm terribly amused by it. *LOL* ;P
There's no math requirement for a psychology major down this way...strange that there is up there. O_o I think there may be a math requirement for a neuroscience major here, but not for psych. ^^ I'm terribly at math, did the lowest level of it in high school and haven't done any since, so thank goodness it's *not* a requirement here. ;P
lol, if I lived in Lethbridge, I'd so be gay with you. XD
Anyway, here's the scoop from the U of A website on Psych majors and minors:
Students selecting Psychology as a major are required to take the following: (1) PSYCO 104 and 105 (2) STAT 151 (3) *6 from PSYCO 223, 233, 241, 258 (4) *6 from PSYCO 267, 275, 281 (5) *3 from CMPUT, MATH or STAT (not including STAT 151) (6) *6 at the 300- or 400-level must be from the courses offered by Arts (7) *6 at the 300- or 400-level must be from the courses offered by Science (8) At least 6 must be at the 400-level
Students selecting Psychology as a minor are required to take the following: (1) PSYCO 104 and 105 (2) STAT 151 (3) *3 from PSYCO 223, 233, 241, 258 (4) *3 from PSYCO 267, 275, 281 (5) *3 of 300- or 400-level courses offered by Arts (6) *3 of 300- or 400-level courses offered by Science
*dies laughing at your icon* Oh God, that's a classic. *giggles*
That sucks, dude...we do have a beginner's stat course as a required part of the psych major, but that's it for math (unless you're in neuroscience, like I said). ^^ Suddenly I consider myself very lucky. ;P
lol, I swiped it from a friend on LJ, who swiped it from someone named shibaiko. X3
You know, looking at that list now, I'm starting to think the Stat 151 course might not be so bad on its own. Perhaps I could do a Psych minor. Goodness knows I like the courses enough... :D
That's the other funny thing about the UofL...we don't have minors. ;P You actually can't take a minor unless you're in certain programs, like pre-med. Weird, eh? ^^;;; If you want more than one subject officially recognized on your degree, you have to do two majors, which people rarely do because it's a hell of a lot of work. ^^
Seriously? Man. o.O I have never heard of that kind of policy before, save in regular colleges. You can do a double major at U of A too, but that's for masochists only, I think.
Yep, seriously. UofL is the weirdest frickin' university...I've heard from transfer students that our transfer policy is incredibly weird and stupid too, although I don't know from experience. ^^;
Definitely for masochists, though...I started out doing the two majors route, a Bachelor of Arts *and* Science...I actually stuck with it for a good two and a half years before I finally said, "Oh my God, I'll be here 'til I'm forty if I stick with this" and I dropped my second major. *LOL*
*LOL* Well, thank you. ;P And don't worry about it being an old thread...I'm still commenting back and forth with a couple of people on entries from a couple of months back. O_o ;P I just like to talk that much. *snort*
