The Olympians post is coming, I promise! I keep getting distracted by … um, well, you know. In the meantime, here are some photos I took over the course of the past six months. These include those that I uploaded to Instagram (no prizes for guessing what I'm known as over there); some of those are the ones that are a bit of a different size than the usual.
This cat is a frequent visitor of our backyard. I sometimes see it walking on the wall outside my window at night -- freaks the hell out of me, not gonna lie.
I'm not a fan of how I edited this with Camera+ (looks too washed out), but it has become a bit too monochromatic to do anything else. Live and learn, I suppose.
I don't know what it is about my [home] office that attracts insects and lizards. The specimen in the first photo was snapped outside my window. The praying mantis was a surprise: I'd shut my laptop's lid as I was about to head to bed, and there it was, staring at me from my ruler. I decided to leave it alone and see if it went away the next day. It did … kind of -- it decided to share the love with one of my pens. I then made Dad transfer the mantis outside, because I was afraid that it'd want to … um, get to know me better (I have a thing about insects flying into my hair or face, ugh.)
I'm not too sure what the last one is, nor was it found in my office, actually -- Mom found it in her room. Once I snapped the above shot, she released it back into our garden.
I came across this little fellow outside school before EN3274's test.
Some of the books I read in my final semester. I liked the first and third, loved the second (obviously, since I wrote a paper about it). Robinson Crusoe and Pamela can be seen under the first two; now those, I didn't like. (Come to think of it, while I am aware of their contribution to the development of the novel as a literary form, I didn't like most of the books on that course. -hisses at Tristram Shandy-)
This was the semester in which I started annotating books for easier reference when writing essays. (… Better late than never, right?) I had a lot of fun removing the labels, believe me.
Look, more labelled books! I had uploaded this with the caption, "The desk of a procrastinator", because … yeah. (The black shape in the lower right is a book I'd borrowed from the library.)
These were taken before Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I had ordered the pasta without realising that its sauce was cream-based … It was delicious, but it became so cloying after a while, I didn't -- couldn't -- finish it.
Mmm, Starbucks. The first photo was from lunch before J. Edgar; the second Mirror Mirror. Delightful, but not as much as Armie was in both films. -winks-
Hey, did you know that 2012 is the Year of the Dragon? It is, so we decorated accordingly for Chinese New Year. The first three are posters that we stuck on our doors. The third one tickled us in particular, what with the dragons squished into the boat and looking downright happy at the same time. The fourth is a red packet I received while at a relative's; I was like, "Purple, pink, and gold? That's me on a red packet, people!"
Some shots of random items that I edited with Camera+ [what I used before I discovered Instagram]. I'm much liking the blue-orange contrast in the first photo.
I mentioned above that this post comprises photos from the first-ish half of this year, right? Well, oops: these were from our trip to KL last year. The first one was taken at a restaurant in Sunway Pyramid. It was the first time Sis #2 and the Parents were in said shopping complex. Don't think we'll be returning anytime soon, however; besides Inglot (yeah!), there was nothing for us that we couldn't find elsewhere. The second was of a perfume I bought. Love the shape of the bottle, even if it does take up space in my closet …
Manicures! The first was an impromptu one featuring one of Inglot's matte shades, and the second was my first -- and last -- attempt at a gel manicure. The result for the latter is gorgeous, don't get me wrong, but removing it was far, far, far worse than what I had to endure the last time I went from painted to bare nails. How it's done: Your fingers are wrapped in cotton that's been soaked in some kind of awful solution that stings like hell, and the cotton is held in place by aluminium foil. Your fingers itch and burn, and feel like they're about to drop off from abject pain, and, because of the foil, you can't do shit about it for the next half an hour … or so. No, no, no. Never again, no matter how much "better" it is than a regular one. I'll take chipped nails and a longer drying time over an experience akin to frostbite and, apparently, a risk of developing cancer from prolonged use (UV light is used to cure the nails).
I love owl earrings. Also, red lipstick.
Remember what I said in my
post about Lady Gaga's concert, about how the set -- a castle -- lit up in all the colours of the rainbow during "Electric Chapel"? Here it is.
We end with some colourful architecture from Clarke Quay! The second one is what the exterior of my future house is going to look like, mark my words.
