went to the austin city limits festival last weekend or as the cool and lazy people like to call it "acl"
They food was cheap and good. (realtively) And besides the heat people were mostly pretty cool. I hate as much as you do the huge ant-sized performers/huge corporate festival, but with this one it was acually pretty good. You could get pretty close to the stage (with some planning).
Some standouts:
Common: a last minute addition, but really good live
Regina Spektor: really really good live, which was suprising since I'm not the time to get into that type of music, but I can see why she has so many fans, her show consisted of just her and a piano and a drumstick
Bjork: great live show, she follows the old: sad song, good song, sad and melancholy songs and then ends with a good song
MIA: fucking awesome! Totally JJ Fadd/L'Trimm awesomeness, she's really funny too
Ziggy Marley: besides seeing a crowd full of white boy dreds dancing to "Positive Vibrations" this was actually a good show
Andrea Eccheverie (sp?): super-cool and really good live, lots of fresas in the audience doe
Aterciopelados: great musicians and grrrreat live,
Zap Mama: she had really good dance moves
LCD Soundsystem
Ghostland Observatory: had a really rad lightshow
Sucked big time:
Blue October: seriously who likes this band? The guy wore eyeliner and they played some boring adult alternative you'd hear on VH1
Bob Dylan: didn't allow any close-ups on the big screen and his voice sounded really bad
Arcade Fire: the audio was bad and they had a boring show, i heard a lot of good things about them, but you know how the saying goes...if the live show sucks....ah
Farmer Jason: had a song called I'm a Punk Skunk(?) most of his jokes fell flat on their face at the kiddies stage. But I had a good time laughing (at him not with him)
