I'm making Pumpkin Pie tonight -- with real pumpkin. You know, the spherical orange things (no, not basketballs -- PUMPKINS) that appear at the fruit market in October.
I bought three pie pumpkins, and steamed them in the microwave (quarter the pumpkin, scoop out the seeds and put it in a casserole with about an inch of water in the bottom) for about 15 minutes, and the pumpkin skin peels right off the flesh.
Then I mashed the pulp with my immersion blender and I was ready to make pie.
The pie is
here.
I'm also roasting the seeds with Worcestershire sauce and garlic.
When I've got the pie in the oven I'm going to cut up some apples, celery and grapes for Waldorf Salad, and steam some green beans.
Mother is contributing N.Y. strip steaks, that may or may not be grilled outside (at my brother's house -- tomorrow is our last kittie-visit Sunday). No, we won't eat them raw, if the weather isn't nice enough to grill, we'll broil them in the kitchen. My SiL is baking potatoes and voila! Sunday dinner.
