This is the view from our hotel room balcony. Well, it would be if I weren't blocking it, anyway. And I swear this was BEFORE we went out for drinks - something on the street just caught my attention right as the pic was taken.
Anyway, we spent the rest of that afternoon and evening (Saturday) wandering around Waikiki and sampling different tropical drinks. We started out with Mai Tais (of course) then moved on to Daquiris and Lava Flows. The next day we split between wandering Waikiki, the beach, and the hotel pool and hot tub. No pics from there. We did find a nice little dark bar for a small lunch and beers. There is a pic of us from dinner that night in the revolving restaurant, but I can't find it right now.
Monday we have Wil at the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor: (He's wearing the Blue Sun shirt, for you Firefly fans.)
We had lunch at a Mexican restaurant up on the North Shore and spent the afternoon cruising around said North Shore and watching the surfers.
There were nice beaches (Tuesday, from the Hana Highway),
Views (Wednesday morning, from the top of Diamond Head)
Sub rides (Wednesday afternoon)
Chopper rides (Thursday early afternoon on the big island)
Volcano craters (Thursday late afternoon, also on the big island)
And more! (This is actually the view from where we had lunch in Hana on Tuesday)
And yes, that is my Metallicar tank in this pic.
This is the Byodo-In Temple on Oahu. Here's both an outside and an inside pic:
I was glad we found it and got to see it - not many Buddhist temples here in the southeast. *g*
And finally, something I absolutely, positively HAD TO DO while in Hawaii: Yes, that's right, I took a surfing lesson.
I submit this pic as proof that I did actually manage to stand up on a surfboard. I think, out of an hour long lesson, I managed to ride in (and by that I mean travel at least a few feet before falling) 3 whole times. Mostly it was me falling face first into the Pacific for an hour. But, it was fun.
There, that's the meat of the trip. Whew. Who knew retelling was this much work?
