Well he deserved better than the plastic bag in the rain

A couple nights ago, late Monday night I think, our parakeet George died. We've had him for about five years. The poor bird, everytime anyone approached him (except for my mom) he'd almost cower in fear, terrorfied of almost everything around him. Every few days he'd be happy and chirping noisily, but for the past year, he really hadn't said much. But now he doesn't need to worry about anything I guess. Anywho, at about 6 in the morning, my mom found him and put him in a plastic bag and put him out on the deck because both of us needed to be at the sammich shop at 6:30. Our Tuesday was long and I didn't get back til around 10 at night. The bird had been outside in the rain the whole time. I felt really bad for him, George deserved better than that. He was one of us for all those years. We were too busy to really take care of it I guess

But anywho, I had the afternoon off, so I put on my jacket and got a shovel out of the basement. I dug a little spot next to our deck and put him in it. Covered it up and put a little wooden marker with the words "George was our bird. He shall fear no more"

Say what you want, but I teared up while doing that. I'll miss the little guy, even if I joked about turning him into sandwiches all the time.

Rest in Peace George
