Emma walked around her apartment in a total mess, as her friend/roommate laid on the couch watching her in amusement. James took a sip of the beer by his side as she tried once again to get a hold of Suse.

“SUSE! Why?” She asked, more like shout into the phone. The dog barked and wagged his tail trying to comfort his owner.

“Calm down....if it helps...I like you and Will better than his fiancée!” She said, happily.

“Suse, your biased doesn’t count...” Emma said, glaring at James who was laughing hysterically.

“You need to tell him how you feel.” Suse said very matter of factly. Emma moaned more to herself than to Suse. “And I am so not biased.”

“He’s engaged. He doesn’t need the baggage that is me.” She said, walking into her bedroom letting the dog in before shutting the door. “And yes you are. You’re my best friend...meaning....you are biased.”

“You were together for two years, ‘sides after you left he was broken, sad really. Then again so were you.” Suse said, hearing her friend moan softly. Suse stared out the window where Will was talking to her husband,

“I know that, but I....he....we.....we couldn’t make it, different coasts and all that.” She said as if that was a reason.

“That’s not a reason; in a relationship you must make sacrifices and compromises.” Suse said, Emma rolled her eyes and glanced at the pile of book on the desk by her bed.

“I know....I didn’t want him to feel tied down.” She said, feeling her throat close. This was getting harder. “I mean, I am here in Boston, and he’s in L.A where everyone looks the same and then there’s ya know....me....not as pretty as some of those people.”

“You’re too hard on yourself. James told me how emo you were. Will was emo too. Skipped work and stuff. Ian talked him out of going to see you more than once.” Suse said, she heard Emma scream.

“I hate Ian...wait that’s not fair, I hate me too. There its fair now.” Emma said, it had been a year. A whole year and she still loved him. This wasn’t fair. Not to anyone. Especially him.

“I hate Ian too sometimes.” Suse said, her friend was silent on the other line, she heard Caboose, Emma’s Scottish terrier barking. Why wasn’t she over him. She was the one who broke up with him, despite what both of them said; Suse knew they were meant to be together. Or at least she thought.

“When’s the party. There’s always a party for that sort of thing right?” Emma asked, softly. Suse who had just been about to hang up. Suse looked at the front door where her husband and Will were walking through.

“May 18th, at the garden estates. Fancy dress.” Suse said, then hearing silence again. Will gave her a questioning look. Suse heard Caboose barking again.

“Ok. I might be there....I haven’t crashed a party in a long time.” Emma said, Suse laughed. Ian pulled out some water and handed the bottle to Will. “Well, I have got to take Caboose on a walk and maybe eat something. I’ll call you later.”

“Kay, I love you.” Suse said, Emma said the same back a hung up. Ian and Will both gave her questioning looks.

“Who was that?” Ian asked, Suse sat the phone on the island in the kitchen.

“Emma, she might come out for a visit.” She said, looking at Will who nodded and looked at the window. Something unreadable in his eyes.
