"Elricestina"- A Poem

Sep 14, 2006 09:24

Yes, you read right.  What I have posted is a poem.  But not just any poem!  It is an Elricest Sestina, hence, "Elricestina"...anyway, enjoy!

Title: Elricestina
Pairing: Elricest
Rating: G
Disclaimer: No, Rowan does not own FMA. Do you think, if she did, she’d waste her time writing this?
Summary: Alphonse longs for a goodnight kiss from Ed...

Elricestina

The night is silent with the cover
of snow outside the window, and Al
is sitting by the fire, his eyes on Ed
and his thoughts trailing over lips,
imagining for a brief moment a kiss
that he knows cannot happen, because it’s forbidden.

But for a moment, Alphonse forgets about forbidden
actions, and moves closer to Ed, the dark a cover
for his movements, as he comes in closer for a kiss.
Ed moves back at the last moment, and Al,
disappointed, backs away and unconsciously licks his lips,
all the while keeping eyes on his brother, Ed.

The fire continues to crackle, while Ed
begins to count all their sins, the forbidden
acts against God and humanity dropping from his lips
like tears. Edward knows his words are just a cover
for the space of silence between himself and Al,
the stretch of unspoken words caused by want of a kiss.

But as the time drags on, Al’s dream of a kiss
fades into the white snow outside the window. Ed
stands to go to bed, but as he walks past, Al
grabs his sleeve and glances up with forbidden
love and want in his eyes, broken only by the cover
of his hair. Al bends his head and bites his lips,

then looks away again, his teeth chewing on his lips.
Ed hesitates, then leans over and gives Al a kiss.
The shadows cast by the fire look like a cover
that consumes Al’s blushing face. Slowly, Ed
straightens, his face pale from the forbidden
exchange, but his fear is chased away by Al,

who grins up at his brother. Quickly, Al
stands up until he and Ed are lips to lips,
eyes promising to forget and forgive the forbidden,
and then they lean together and kiss and kiss and kiss
until, out of breath, Alphonse pulls away from Ed,
his smile hiding what more he wants like a veiling cover.

Now they have moved beyond forbidden, with that one kiss
and Al is fine with that, as long as Ed’s lips
are his. And Ed knows all the lust is still just a cover.
Well, if you can tell, the key to a sestina is the pattern of repeating end-words (yes, there is a pattern.) I love sestinas! They are so much fun to write! And one day in February I was really bored and wrote that. And now I give it to you! Yay, and even though it’s short, they still kiss and...writing elricest poems are fun, I have decided. I won’t write too many, though. Stories are still more fun. But, well, what did you think? Please review this, even though it was pathetically short. I mea, it’s a poem; you didn’t expect it to be epic, right? Well, until the next time I write, thank you! -Rowan
