I mean, the first time we’re “introduced” to Ed’s birthday in the show, it’s the beginning of winter and there’s a freakin’ blizzard
---end quote---

Ed's birthday is at the beginning of February (or possibly late January.) It's canon. When Ed and Al are on the train at the beginning of October just after burning their house down, Hughes, Hawkeye, and Mustang discuss Gracia's pregnancy over the phone. Hawkeye mentions that Gracia's five months pregnant (of course, this could mean, say four-months-and-three-weeks or five-months-and-two-weeks or something, but either way there's a very narrow range implied.)

Assuming that Amestrian women have a normal nine-and-a-half month gestation (and there's no reason to assume that they don't), and knowing that Elysia shares Ed's birthday but was born a week before her due-date, that means that said birthday must occur approximately four months later.

Incidentally, this makes Edward an Aquarius, or perhaps a tail-end Capricorn.

Hmm... that does make sense, and I have no trouble accepting that Ed's birthday is in Feburary, January, or-- as has also been suggested-- March, that doesn't change the fact that this fic is based on the OVA. And it is DEFINIENTLY not January, Febuary, or March in the OVA. ^_^;;;;;

It could be the whole "other side of the gate" thing coming into play, though.

In any case, thanks so much for your comment-- it was very helpful! ^_^

That all depends on where the OVA is supposed to take place. Are they actually in Japan? If so, where - Japan stretches from cold Hokkaido to sub-tropical Okinawa. Are they still in Europe? From the three years I spent in the Netherlands, that would be a particularly nice day for February (especially the lack of cloud cover and rain), but not utterly unreasonable, especially farther south. In the United States? Winter in Georgia or southern California is a lot different than winter in New England.

Yup, they're in Japan-- in a big city. I'm not sure, but I think it's supposed to be modeled after Tokyo. *shrugs*

In any case: x_@ This is all too much for me...

^_^;

Thanks again for your help! *hugs*

(PS. Have you not seen the OVA? You really should watch it-- it's adorable! You can find it on Youtube if you search under "FMA kids OVA." XD)

I've seen it. Personally, I'd say that it's just supposed to take place in a generic 'could-be-anywhere' city, because that does not look much like Tokyo to me. Not that it really matters, seeing as the OVA's are all technically non-canon.

Incidentally, I saw it with Spanish subtitles, and the kids used the term bisabuelo - great-grandfather - for Edward.

Yeah, it's non-cannon. But you know, whatever. ^_^;;;

In any case, I can speak a little Japanese; they called Ed "Jii-chan," which would be "Grandpa."
