I'm halfway there

.) The Prestige (4.0 DVD) - A solid film containing dueling magicians, super science and (good) plot twists. The movie has great pacing, a talented cast and the cinematography really helps set the mood. My only complaint is that the feuding magicians angle becomes comical at some points. Bale and Jackman could probably make millions doing time management seminars, as they have enough time to invent new tricks as well as sabotage their rival all while being married. (The marriage thing takes up most of your time from what I hear)

.) Lost Boys (5.0 DVD) - Classic 80's time capsule film ala the Warriors and Short Circuit. The Corey's show why they ruled the 80's in this film with their on-screen charisma. Kiefer Sullivan's performance as a vampire was definitely the archetype for the Anne Rice films. Moody cinematography and witty dialogue round out this classic film. They don't make them like this anymore.

.) The Goonies (5.0 DVD) - Another 80's gem I had the pleasure of seeing in the theater recently. There is an amazing quality to this film that is lost when seeing it on a television. Speilberg does a phenomenal job directing. The camera angles and background add so much to the film. It literally draws you in. This film is a perfect example of how anything from a cave to the inside of a living room can have a wondrous element to it if shot correctly. Modern filmmakers should definitely study it.

.) The Smashing Machine (4.0 DVD)-A documentary about former UFC heavyweight champion Mark Kerr's rise and fall. It chronicles his addiction to training, drugs and worst of all women. This film is a great look into what goes on behind the scenes in the world of mixed martial arts. It also gets into the heads of the fighters and shows what makes them tick. Physicality is only part of the game; good mental health is the cornerstone of anyone involved in fight sports. It is heartbreaking to see the mental abuse inflicted upon him by his girlfriend. Perfect example of how the right woman can make you and the wrong woman can break you.

.) Planet Terror (4.5 DVD) - The uncut version of Rodriquez contribution to grindhouse kind of drags with the extra scenes. The tight editing in the grindhouse version made the film fly by at 90 miles per hour, the extra scenes in this edition really take away what Planet Terror is supposed to be about. The fast pace was a good dichotomy to the molasses like pace of Deathproof. Still a great film with tons of gore, comedy and sexy ladies.

.) The Mummy Returns (4.0 Cable)- I can tell Indiana Jones was the directors favorite movie from the feel of this film. Brendan Fraiser does an ok job as the hero but there is something about him in that role which doesn't sit right with me. Oded Fehr is definitely the stand out in this film and I wonder why he doesn't get more work. Great special effects, funny dialogue and great action sequences makes this the kind of movie you can watch over and over on cable.

.) Knocked Up- (4.5 DVD)-Finally someone had the idea to make a chick flick that men can enjoy. Seth Rogan does a great job channeling the manboy in all of us. Funny but heartwarming at the same time, I found myself rooting for the girl. A little on the long side, many of the scenes could (should) have been cut.
