37.) 40 Year Old Virgin- (4.5 Stars DVD) This movie gets funnier everytime I watch it. A hilarious premise along with a great supporting cast makes this a movie a much watch. Steve Carrell cements why he is such a big star but still manages to let his co-stars shine as opposed to Will Ferrel who has a tendency to steal the show. This film definitely foreshadowed the dominance of the Apatow empire.
38.) Ong Bak- (4.5 Stars DVD)The break out film from thai action star Tony Jaa's is a giant step on the road to his succession of the asian action movie star crown. Following in the steps of legends such as the late great Bruce Lee, the enigmatic Sonny Chiba and the current king Jet Li, Ja's high energy performance and on screen charisma show that he is here to stay. The movie itself is filled with great fight choreography as well as death defying stunts that makes you hardly notice what a shoestring budget the film was put together on. If you are a martial arts movie fan and haven't seen this film yet you are slipping. Hard.
On an unrelated note: I heard a leak of the new Horse the Band album and I have to say they are one of the few bands whose music gets with every album. Heavy music has not interested me in a while but this record is great from begining to end. I remember seeing them in the summer of 03 at ABC NO RIO, which is essentially a scabies filled basement where the fans of punk rock's past congregate to hear acts that only put out vinyl. I had no idea who they were but by the end of the set I was a fan. Anything band that is dubbed nintendocore is for me.
