Summary: I’m alive, I swear! I know it’s been awhile, but life has caught up with me, so I’m sorry for this part taking so long. The next part won’t be up for awhile again, so I should just start apologizing now. I promise once I get some more time to update, I will! Hope this part will keep everyone happy for now.
Callie
Today is the day. Today is the day I tell George I’m done. Done with pretending, done with always being second-best, done with being someone I’m not. By the time I got home after what happened at Arizona’s apartment, George had been paged to the hospital and I hadn’t seen him for the entire next day. Every time I “accidentally” ran into Arizona in an on-call room, she had this hopeful look on her face. It quickly faded when I would tell her I hadn’t been able to tell him yet because he had been in surgery or with a patient. She tried to hide the disappointment in her eyes and tell me that it was okay; that I should take my time and do it when I felt it was right. She looked so cute, flashing a smile to ease my frustration from not being able to say the words that I have wanted to say for so long. She simply brushes my bangs aside and whispers reassurance before kissing me on the cheek and getting back to work.
I feel like I’m torturing the both of us; not being able to touch her the way I want to is killing me. It has now been 37 hours since I felt her lips against mine and as each minute ticks by without that taste again, I feel my resolve weakening. It isn’t until I finally spot George walking down the hallway with Meredith and Alex that I feel the pressure being lifted from my chest. I look up and see Arizona watching me cautiously from across the nurses’ station. I give her a brief, but reassuring smile and hand over the chart in my hands before strolling up to George.
“Callie, hey,” he laughs his greeting, clearly still amused by something Meredith had just said.
“Hey,” I reply politely, but all business. “Can I talk to you for a minute?”
“Yeah sure...” he eyes me suspiciously before leaning in closer. “…is everything okay?”
There are just too many ways I could respond to this question that I can’t stop the chuckle that escapes my lips.
“Yeah,” I assure him, muffling my laughter. “I just, um,” I pause and glance up to the pair of blue eyes awaiting the words she can hear nearby. “I just wanted to…oh…my god.”
My focus moves from Arizona to the elevator behind her. I watch them stroll from the open doors, heads held high and smiles plastered to their faces. I catch George and Arizona both glancing in the direction I’m now staring wide-eyed at with my mouth slightly open in shock. The eyes of the two people walking confidently towards us light up when they see George and me talking.
“Calliope!”
I gulp back the nervous lump in my throat before letting out a stiff chuckle and bringing my eyes away from confused blue ones.
“Mom…Dad…”

“Calliope, that’s how you greet your parents?” my mom scoffs at the still shocked look on my face; I don’t have to turn my head to know that Arizona has the same expression. I watch George shake my dad’s hand before accepting the eager hug from my mom. She squeezes me until I’m breathless and pulls back to plant a few kisses on my cheek before shoving me toward my father’s awaiting arms.
“Whaaaa um,” I stutter, making a mental note to smack Arizona who’s giggling at my mother’s excited displays of affection in the corner. “Not that I’m not super excited to see you guys,” I pause, wiping away the remains of my mother’s lipstick from my face. “But what are you doing here?”
“Oh we just wanted to see you, mija,” my mother looks around the hospital in amazement, taking in the sights and sounds of the place that has become my life. “Wow, this place is incredible, Calliope,” she walks away, taking a look at a few bulletin boards and pictures on the walls.
“Mom,” I hiss and get an innocent look in response. “Focus,” I bring her attention back to the four of us standing in the middle of the hallway. “So you guys just decided to show up…unannounced…because you felt like it?” I ask the question cautiously because I know there must be a reason they’re here. They share a knowing look, thinking I don’t see the exchange between the two of them.
“Can’t a mother and father just visit their daughter when they want?” my mom spits the question at me and wraps her arm around my neck, spinning us around to the nurses’ station. “And besides, I’ve never seen this place. Your father tells me so much about it, but I’ve never been here. I want to see what you do…meet your friends.”
Just as she says these words, Mark decides to call out for me from his new spot next to Arizona. He doesn’t realize my parents are next to me until my mom spins the two of us towards them; as soon as he utters my name, I see the look of regret flash across his face. My mother simply smiles brightly and pats my shoulder, pulling me toward the two of them. She waits patiently for me to give introductions.
“Oh, uh…Mom, this is Mark, he’s head of plastics,” I announce, motioning to my best friend. “And this is Arizona,” I move my hand toward the woman with the perky, dimpled smile. “She’s head of pediatric surgery,” I declare proudly, watching as my mother’s eyes light up as she meets my people.
“Lovely to meet you both,” my mom shakes both of their hands and immediately does what I feared she would. “Calliope never talks about anything other than this hospital…it’s nice to know she has a life outside of it.” I roll my eyes at the embarrassment that is my mother and glare at the two people in front of me when they laugh along with her. “I guess if Calliope won’t tell me these things, I’ll just have to figure them out myself. How about we take all you kids out to dinner tonight?”
“Uh, mom,” I groan in protest only to be silenced by her hand that shoots into the air to shut me up.
“Oh shush Calliope, I’m not going to bite them,” she jokes and waits for them to answer.
“Uh, I would love to,” Mark exclaims politely and gets a beaming smile from my mother.
“And Arizona, what about you, dear?”
Everyone’s eyes turn to the woman staring at me blankly. I shrug my shoulders, letting her know it’s up to her for this one. Her lips curl into a smile before she eagerly nods her head and answers,” I would love to as well.”
Oh boy.

After successfully ridding my parents from the hospital, I drag her into an on-call room and shut the door with a sigh.
“What the hell are they doing here?” I ask her incredulously, as if she would know the answer. I don’t wait for her to respond before going into a full-on rant. “They just appear out of nowhere and start whining about not being able to see me or meet my friends like it’s…no big deal. It is a big deal!” I start pacing back and forth in front of Arizona who simply takes a seat on the bed against the wall. “And now they want to go to dinner with my husband, my best friend, and my…….you,” I glare at her when she snorts; she claps her hand over her mouth as soon as my eyes shoot daggers into her body. “This is not funny!” I hiss in frustration.
“I’m sorry,” she laughs and grabs my wrist when I roll my eyes and start to pace again. I stop and turn around, instantly feeling the tension start to ease when her fingers wrap around me. “You’re just cute when you rant,” she whispers playfully and pulls me toward her.
I smile, unable to hold back any longer, and trace my fingers along the features of the face that’s taken over my mind ever since she arrived.
“You’re really okay with this? Dinner with my parents I mean?” I ask hesitantly, afraid to hear the answer. “Because…I don’t think I can tell George about everything…not until they’re gone,” I whisper the words weakly, nervous that she will get mad; instead, she simply shrugs her shoulders and kisses the palm of my hand.
“I figure I’ll be meeting them sooner or later. And besides…” she stands up and leans in towards me ear; I can feel her breath tickling my skin, blowing fire across my face and sending electricity through me. “I can’t wait to hear all of your embarrassing stories, Calliope.”
“Augh,” I groan and roll my head back in frustration when I hear my full name come from her mouth. “I’m going to kill my mother.”
Arizona giggles and kisses just below my ear, making it harder and harder for me to remember how to breathe.
“I kinda like it,” she whispers, running her fingers up and down my arms, making it so much harder for me to control myself.
“Arizona,” I exhale in frustration, prying her hands away from where her fingers are scratching my stomach. “Stop it,” I groan playfully, letting her know how sexually frustrated I am. She kisses me cheek and backs away towards the door, forcing me to open my eyes in disappointment.
“Whatever you say…Calliope.”
