Summary: Takes place a few months or so after they get back together in the Season 6 finale. Extreme fuzzies overload!
An adoring smile stretches across Arizona’s lips when the light from the hospital hallway touches Callie’s sleeping face just before she closes the on-call room door. She looks so peaceful; her breathing is heavy, but steady, her body is perfectly still, and she has a small dopey smile on her face. When you’re apart from someone for so long and you finally get them back, you start to appreciate the little things that you missed the most-for Arizona, it’s the sleeping. It’s that moment after hours of sexiness when her muscles are sore and she can’t catch her breath; she looks over and watches Callie’s eyes flutter shut, her bangs stick to her forehead from a light glimmer of perspiration, and she looks whole and sated. It’s the moment in the middle of the night when the guilt and failure come back to haunt her in the form of tiny coffins; she feels Callie’s arm wrap around her protectively and her breath tickling her ear as she whispers that she’s there and she loves her.
It was that moment long ago after a few months of dating when she watched Callie the entire night, tracing along the shadows of her body just to memorize every little detail she could. That was the night she realized she was falling for the woman before her. And now-after being back together for two months-all of those feelings are stronger and growing stronger every day. She can’t believe how much she loves her…everything about her. So much that it hurts to be away from her. She loves her now more than she did yesterday and she knows tomorrow will be the same. Not a bad trend.
Arizona quietly tip toes to the slumbering body to her left, making sure to gently ease her weight onto the bed when she sits down. She takes a few seconds to marvel her girlfriend up close now, loving the tiny shudder that echoes down Callie’s spine when she softly kisses her lips. It takes a few seconds for Callie to realize she isn’t dreaming before she starts to stir; her arms and legs slowly stretch as far as possible while a big yawn escapes and her eyes flutter. Arizona lets out a muffled giggle when Callie’s eyes finally open and a goofy grin appears.
“Hi,” Callie sighs, wiping the last remnants of sleep from her eyes.
“Hey,” Arizona whispers and returns the silly look.
Callie’s eyes suddenly start to look around as if she’s searching for something. “Did I miss a page?” she asks and starts to sit up to find her beeper.
“No, no page,” Arizona answers and tucks away a stray strand of dark hair. “I just wanted to tell you my good news. My cancer patient came through…Teddy and I found a way to keep her stable even with the heart condition. It’s not a total solution, but we got part of it, so we’ll probably be able to go back in tomorrow and get the rest.”
A proud and ecstatic smile takes over Callie’s eyes and lips by the time Arizona tells her little Melissa came through. She grabs the sides of the dark blue scrub top above her and pulls Arizona closer so they’re only inches away.
“You kicked ass,” she brags for her girlfriend.
“I kicked ass,” Arizona agrees confidently and accentuates her point with a sharp nod of the head. They both laugh as the distance between them closes and their lips meet in a quick and affectionate peck. When they pull away, they can both feel a sudden mood change-one that moves from playful jokes to sincere proclamations. Blue eyes meet with brown as Arizona chokes back the sentimental lump in her throat before continuing. “I couldn’t wait to tell you,” she whispers involuntarily, her voice catching in her throat when she speaks. “Because I knew you’d look at me like that.”
Callie’s forehead scrunches slightly in confusion, but the proud twinkle in her eyes never fades. “Like what?” she asks, her own voice shaking a little nervously.
Arizona can feel the tears rushing towards freedom when the memories of those weeks apart come rushing back. She tilts her head to the side and pauses to quietly clear her throat, making sure Callie’s eyes are locked on her own. “Like you can’t stop,” she whispers and brushes Callie’s bangs out of her eyes.
The smile slowly fades from Callie’s lips and her features scrunch up in concern when a tear escapes the cerulean eyes before her. She knows they’re happy tears, but her stomach still flutters when she thinks about everything they had to go through in order to get back to this happy place. She can feel her chest tightening as the thoughts of the pain they both felt enter her mind. She doesn’t know how to explain the unadulterated love she has for the woman before her…it never feels like enough.
“Arizona,” she whispers the name so quietly that she isn’t sure how either of them actually hear it. She starts playing with the blonde curls lying on top of her chest while she finds the words she wants to say. Before she can answer, Arizona does it for her.
“I love you,” she interrupts Callie’s thoughts with the three words that she knows will never stop making her heart beat faster.
Callie wraps her hand around the back of the soft neck above her and tugs Arizona forward until their lips connect for a sweet and meaningful kiss. It doesn’t take long for softness to turn to heat as their tongues begin to glide along each other and Arizona shuffles onto the bed to straddle Callie. Callie’s delicate, but strong fingers spread across Arizona’s waist underneath her scrub top, tickling the soft skin they find. Their lips part so Callie can tug the clothing over blonde curls and perfect white skin, moaning softly when she finds the neon pink bra that she loves so much. Arizona’s giggles fill the room for a few seconds before she’s tugged back down and kissed roughly, their tongues flicking against each other in a slow dance. Just as a white hand starts tugging at the strings of Callie’s scrubs, a loud beeping feels the room accompanied by two groans of disapproval.
Arizona pulls her lips away and reaches behind Callie for both of their pagers, but Callie ignores the intrusion; she continues to roam Arizona’s body with her lips, leave soft, wet kisses along her neck and chest.
“It’s yours,” Arizona exhales, trying to focus on how to speak rather than those perfect lips trailing all over her body. Disappointment clouds her eyes when the contact is lost and Callie moves her back so they can both sit up.
“It’s Bailey,” she announces. Both of their eyes widen cautiously; if it had been anyone else they might be able to pull off a few more minutes alone, but not with Miranda Bailey.
“Oookay,” Arizona pouts like a little kid. She crawls off of Callie’s lap and slips her top back on while Callie adjusts her outfit.
“I love you,” Callie whispers, leaning down to slide Arizona’s hair from underneath her top and plant one last kiss. One last kiss turns into the start of another make-out session until images of Bailey yelling at both of them pop into Callie’s mind. “Arizona,” she giggles the name. “I have to go.”
“Yes, yes you do,” Arizona agrees, but continues to kiss the smiling lips before her. Callie finally composes herself and reluctantly pulls away, not looking back as she walks out of the room. The blonde lets out a sigh of frustration and flops back onto the bed. It takes a few minutes for the dizziness she always feels when they kiss to fade away before she stands up and wipes her lips to get back to work. She takes a deep breath and feels her lips curl into a smile when she thinks about going home tonight. Home. Home with Callie. Because Callie is her home, forever.
